measuring bread ingredients in advance
I've been very lazy recently and buying bread rather than using my dear old breadmaker. I remember someone mentioning that they measure out the flour in advance to save time. So I was thinking that once a week I could measure out the dry ingredients for a loaf and store them in jam jars until needed. What do you think?…

Cleaning fixed upholstery
I have had a look through the mega index and I can't see anything to help me so I thought I would ask if anyone has any ideas. We have a cane suite in the conservatory which is in good repair except the cushions are a little grubby. They don't come off the inside foam so washing in the machine isn't an option or is it? I…

Batch cooking tips
Hi I'd like to try batch cooking - can you suggest ideas? I'm a vegetarian, but eat eggs and dairy products. I want to try and eat healthily, although on a budget. Currently spend about £25 a week on food, am sure i can cut this down.

Elevation Breadmaker
Hi, I've been following the OS board for a couple of weeks now and am gradually converting to a true OSer. I've got the SC, tons of baking stuff, white vinegar, microfibre cloths and finally got my stardrops yesterday. :D The latest stage in my transformation is going to be breadmaking. I really want one of the posh ones…

I've got a chicken curry in my SC, and the sauce is a little 'harsh' tasting. I've got some double cream, portioned and whipped in the freezer, can I drop a portion straight in without defrosting??

Stain removal - cat wee
Hi oldstylers Can anyone advise on how best to remove cat wee from my (brand new :-( ) mattress? We have scrubbed it with a mix of bio detergent, water and vinegar and vaxed it dry (our vax works as a wet vacuum but doesn't do the cleaning thing properly). It's better than it was but I'm worried that we've just got used to…

Rice, help with freezing, reheating and eating please!
I have just heard that rice is one of the biggest causes of food poisoning so I'm now a little wary about it. I don't really know much about it. I would like to take rice salads to work with me in the summer, if I made a large batch of rice and froze it in portions would I just be able to defrost a portion and make a salad…

Oxtail Soup
Does anyone else use Oxtail Soup in casseroles and chilli. Have to be honest and say I use a tin but you could use homemade. I use it instead of tomatoes or gravy granules in various dishes. It's good for stewing steak, chilli mince, sausages and all manner of red meat dishes. It's quick and easy and you only need to add…

Definitely not OS - those "gift cards"
Anyone care to join me in a complete boycot of store "gift cards"? I used to think gift vouchers and book vouchers were quite nice, fairly OS in a way, but now they're all changing to swipe cards. I think it's tacky, and a complete waste of resources, all that plastic that won't be recycled. I'm going to write to stores…
