Cleaning fixed upholstery

I have had a look through the mega index and I can't see anything to help me so I thought I would ask if anyone has any ideas.
We have a cane suite in the conservatory which is in good repair except the cushions are a little grubby. They don't come off the inside foam so washing in the machine isn't an option or is it?
I am fairly competant with sewing etc, has anyone dismantled, washed and put back together this kind of thing? Or is there an easy way to clean them on the cushions? Any tips ?
Just seen some really nice replacement furniture but the price is a little high!

Well...Firstly if you unpick the covers, and can't wash and get them back on as you can sew, you could always make new ones with zips... using the old ones as patterns.
I have cleaned the arms on our sofa using a vanish upholstery spray in the past which seemed to work quite well, but our sofa is dark blue (and the other covers go in the machine) but I seem to remember the spray was quite expensive (about £4)

Hi
I don't suppose you have a steam cleaner do you? Or do you know anyone who has one who could lend it to you.
I was given a lovely comfy sofa by a friend when we had our conservatory built a couple of years ago. It's lovely but pale & although the cushion covers come off & can be washed, the rest of it is fixed. I cleaned it with vanish upholstery cleaner removed with the steam cleaner & it came up like new.
Failing that, katieowl's is a good idea or you could just make slip covers to go over the existing ones. I made a slip cover for an old stained pouffe using a cheap single duvet cover I bought from Dumhelm Mills. It looks great & there was enough fabric to make a bolster cushion too. It wasn't difficult at all, just a box shape & as long as you measure accurately should look very professional.0 -
I have cheated, turned them all round so they look OK for now but the fabric is very faded, they have been in our south facing conservatory for about 10 years or so. I think I will have a look for some fabric at the local factory shop when I get a minute and maybe have a try to recover the existing cushions.0
