White Bed Linen
Well, it's more cotton than linen, but it's starting to yellow, particularly around the pillowcase area - and we do have pillow ticks which are spotless. I'm currently using Ariel non bio (but have switched to Tesco own non bio for grocery challenge) which normally brings my whites up quite well. But, is this where the…

Now & Then: JUNE
Is there one of these for June? Anyway, following on from some posts within these pages I checked out our washing machine. I didn't know that not only was there an "energy saving" button, but there was also a "time saving" one. So ... Then: Waited 1.5 hours for each wash to finish - longer for a tumble dry load…

Freezing fruit
Hello all, I was having a read of a book I have about juices and smoothies, and was surprised to learn you can freeze fresh strawberries, raspberries etc to put into smoothies (blending them from frozen so no need for ice, also thickens the texture of the smoothie). This just never occurred to me and is so useful to know…

African supermarket
There's a little African supermarket just opened up down the road from me - it doesn't seem to have loads of stock yet but has a fair amount of sacks/packets of grains/cereal/pulses along with assorted other stuff. What should I be looking out for that might be moneysaving?

Sainsbury's staff get the biggest bargains!
I just got back from Sainsbury's, I couldn't believe what I just saw  The woman in front of me had loads of packs of chicken breasts, they're normally sold at £5.99 each or £7 for two packs - so if you pay full price the till rings up £5.99 + £5.99 - £4.98 = £7. However they were reduced to £1.50 each so the till…

Flageolet beans - any good ideas?
My (French) husband goes on these little jaunts to Caen or Cherbourg every so often and comes back with a Renault Espace full of typical French fare for us to nosh. How do you dry mushrooms?
Just been reading the thread about growing your own Shi-take mushrooms and it got me thinking about having a go with a view to drying them. Parboiling & Freezing Broccoli
Just been to Tesco where loads of broccoli was on the bargain section, reduced to 20p a kilo! Well, I couldn't leave it on the shelf, and thought I'll make some Broccoli and Stilton soup with some of it, and will parboil and freeze the rest, so I can whip it out of the freezer and use it as and when required. So, can I do…
