Confused on roundabouts
Been driving in town and on motorways for 35 years quite competently, nothing special (very few accidents, caused none as far as I know). Recently I've lost confidence on 2 particular roundabouts, I always seem to be in the wrong position when I want to exit. Could do with some advice please. Both roundabouts have 5…

Halfords Autocentre Dispute
Hi! Just wanted to share my experience with Halfords Autocentres (Camborne branch). Took my newly purchased MG ZS 180 in to have a major service as I tend to think this is a good idea after buying a second hand car. The car had had an MOT last month with no advisories, so I wasn't really expecting anything to need doing.…

Test Drives when buying new car.
We are in the process of looking for a new second hand car. Looking for something a couple of years old and too be honest finding it a bit of a mine field. there are so many garages/showrooms.:o My question really is - what generally happens on a test drive? Does someone from the garage take you out or do you test drive…

Rant about Camberley Autofactors
Can't believe how downhill they've got. The guys who served me were so incredibly rude and unhelpful, their stock is woeful and their technic knowledge is primative to say the least. This is the Basingstoke branch, but have been to another branch and its the same; and they just do not understand how to deal with customers.…

Help! Nissan Almera 1999 (s) which baby seat?
Hi all, I have a 1999 S-reg Nissan Almera GX. It does not have Isofix points, or any way to fit them. I am currently 5 months pregnant and looking into car seats for the baby, only to find that manufacturers only list compatibility with later Almeras (the newer shape from 2000 onwards). I have also read that fitting a…

I was sat at the traffic lights on the A12 at Colchester Rd/Gubbins Lane and as I sat and waited I noticed the lights in front of me went from red to amber to green so I proceeded forward and as I did so I glanced to my left and in my side mirror, only to notice that the cars beside me werent moving and that I had just…

Tesco Clubcard and RAC
I'm looking to 'buy' RAC cover using my tesco clubcard vouchers and I've found there are some offers to new members. Currently the RAC membership is in my name which I bought using my clubcard last year, it's a joint membership and DH has a card too. Now it says this offer is only open to new members so would DH count as a…

how to run the timing belt throguh the timing circuit with engine off?
I want to do a visual inspection on the belt to make sure everything look good. I can get the engine cover and timing belt cover off to have a look but can on glance at the two overhead cams only. Was wondering if there were any procedures to manually crank the engine round so I can inspect the entire belt?

What happens to no claims bonus if you don't claim
Long story short - guy in a motability car reversed into us in his brand new car last week and scratched our bumper. His car also scratched. He says he has to claim it on his insurance even though he was at fault. H doesn't want to make a claim for repair in case it affects NCB but does he also lose this just because the…

Bicycle carrier for Mini Cooper
I guess this query crosses between motoring and cycling threads! Can anyone confirm whether a rear bike carrier (ie up over rear windscreen) can safely be used on a Mini Cooper? Halfords hesitated through fear that the small plastic spoiler may be damaged or not hold the weight. When I enquired at the BMW dealer (just to…

£50 4 U offer from Post Office - How reliable?
My insurance renewal came up as a bit over £300 Seeing the Post office offer of a promise to beat my existing renewal by £50 (guaranteed) I am very tempted BUT They quoted me a staggering £950 like for like. They say that I'd have to pay the £950 up front and after 60 days I'd be refunded the difference + £50 It's a lot of…

Selling a car with disability tax
Hi My parents wish to sell their car (as they have bought another car). Their existing car is on a disability tax class. Direct Line dispute - over-valuing my car
My other half crashed our car and caused mostly cosmetic damage. As he hit another car we had to claim on our insurance. After a few phone calls we knew the repairs would cost at least £1,500 pounds but our car isn't worth more than £1,000. We called direct line and they told us that usually at 60% of the car's value the…

Vectra starting problem- morning only
I may have asked a more general question like this a month or two ago, but at least the 'spanner' icon is not staying on now as it once did. My problem is that my 08 Vectra 1.9 cdti (132,000 miles) now struggles to start each day. Once started it is perfectly Ok restarting for the rest of the day. I have learned to turn…

Ford Fusion fault
Hi, I have a 2003 1.6 petrol Ford Fusion that has had a problem recently. It was mis-firing, a local garage diagnosed a fault with cylinder number 1 and so replaced coil pack, leads and plugs for about £180. Few weeks later the mis-fire is back says he thinks its a faulty coil and so changes it again under warranty. A…

Servicing
My car mot is due soon. It's 10 years old this year and only got about 32k miles on it. I don't drive much as I work locally. I have thought about giving up the car but that's a different story. What is the standard rule (if there is one) for servicing your car? I've owned it for 3 years now (this will be my 3rd mot with…
