Apply for loan after mortgage accepted?
I know this is bad practice. But financially I know what I’m doing.. but basically I need to find stamp duty of £2,850. I thought getting a £3k loan once the mortgage offer has officially been accepted would mean I could pay that bill and I can pay off the loan. But how long can I leave it so it doesn’t mess up my mortgage…

Danger of arrears - help
I bought a house in Maidenhead with my husband in 2017 on a 95% mortgage (it was our first house) - very good house for the money, great size, no red flags etc. Since then, we have got divorced and need to sell the house. Currently we each pay half the mortgage and he still lives there so also pays all of the bills and…

First time mortgage questions
Hi everyone, I'm close to my deposit target but I have a few questions I'd like answering if possible. I've been saving notes plus £1 & £2 coins in a jar for the past year, I've probably only got around £350-£400 saved but I plan to break the jar and deposit it into my savings, would this look "dodgy" when they check my…

Disclaimer - This question is not for my current personal situation, but a topic that came during conversation with friends earlier tonight on dinner Is Consent to Let a common practice amongst all lenders? Are there regulations about this? I heard First Direct does not provide Consent to Let for more than 6 months... Are…

Paying off fixed rate mortgage at the end of the term
I am in a ridiculous situation with Halifax. Through a broker, I opted to change to a fixed rate mortgage 2 years ago. That rate finishes at the end of this month - 30th April. The new variable rate kicks in on the 1st May. I asked for a figure to pay off the mortgage on the 30th April and I have been told I need to pay…

Using SPV to convert Mortgage to Buy to let
Hi, I would be grateful for your advice on the use of SPV for property purchases. My circumstances are that I am 34 and have a joint mortgage with my wife. We have c.120k in equity in our current property and around 50k in savings. We are both higher rate tax payers. We would like to buy a bigger house for c.400k, whilst…

95% mortgage
I'm currently saving up a deposit to buy. It would take me too long to save the 10% required to get the better deals, so I'm hoping for a 95% mortgage. I've used loads of the online calculators but does anyone have any experience of how hard they are to get? My credit score is 'good' and I have no late/missed payments or…

Mortgage deal expiring
Hi all Me and my wife bought our first home in July 2017. We arranged our mortgage through an advisor, and settled on a 2-year fix from Nationwide, meaning that it's due to expire this summer. In the last week we got a letter from Nationwide, asking us if we'd like to sign up for a new deal with them. This is our first…

63 and Desperate
Dear Experts, I am desperate. 5 years ago my lovely wife Kathy was diagnosed with Breast Cancer. She had a very invasive form of Cancer. She had a mastectomy, chemo and radio therapy. She gave up work as a Registered Nurse. We had to sell our house. In November 2017 her GP noticed some dark areas on a scan on her spine and…

5 or 2 Year
I just wanted to know what people were doing in regards to fixed term mortgages. I have been offered a rate of 1.6% on a 2 year fixed or a 1.99% on a 5 year as a FTB. Brexit is a big unknown, but I wondered whether people are plumping for short-term to see what happens with interest rates or am i better locking in?

Need a little advice on buying with a family bridging loan
I've put my house (no mortgage, worth roughly £100k) on the market and have been looking for a new one. The idea was I'd sell and get a new, smallish mortgage on the one I'd buy. Not had an acceptable offer yet, but a property has come up I really like that I'd like to move on. I have an agreement in principle from HSBC…
