Halifax early repayment charge (refund?)
Hi all The new build house that we want isn't available until September, from what I understand, we can get a refund on the early repayment charges from Halifax. How does this refund come back? Can it be deducted from the deposit amount? Or does it take longer than that? Thanks!

remortgaging a flat
A few years ago I bought a small flat (in addition to the family home which my wife and i have owned many years). At first our daughter lived in it, then after a couple of years she moved on and we let it for the first time to paying tenants. 4 years further down the line, I have had 100% occupancy and I want to remortgage…

HSBC 1.99% 5yr fixed - change or not
We have a big mortgage of over 300k, and currently on life time tracker with HSBC, which is 1.49%+BOE. Saw the news that HSBC has just released new low 5 yr fixed rate product at 1.99%, which is the same as what we are paying now.. ok, aparte from the high arrangment fee of £1,500. So tempted to switch to fixed. God knows…

London and Country experience
Hi I recently used London and Country for mortgage advice, and the service was worrying. I am divorcing, selling the shared home, and moving into a flat by myself. I won't be getting much of the assets and so I'll have only a 5% deposit. Firstly, the guy knew my wife had talked to an L&C person before and was forceful in…

Is re-mortgaging mid way through a fix worth it
Hi We bought our first house last Feb with Nationwide's save to buy mortgage. We purchased the house for £250K. The house was valued between 250-280 at the time. It was a private sale and stamp duty rates were per the old system so we were able to buy at the lower valuation. We are currently on a rate of 5.89% and 1 year…

Will tax credits count towards income?
My partner and I are looking to into getting a mortgage only our income is quite low. Which means we won't be able to borrow much on my partners income alone. I currently don't work as I have two small children. We get tax credits and child benefit which if considered an income would boost how much we could get a mortgage…

Hi all, I could use some advice... Me and my ex own a house, jointly. Unfortunately the relationship finished, amicably enough though, and she moved out some months back. She kept paying her half of the mortgage for a while in order to maintain her stake in it, with the plan for it to be sold later in the year.…

The porting trap - how likely?
Hello, Our mortgage will be coming up for renewal early next year and I am having a think about what to do with it. We want to buy a larger house sometime but this will not be until 2017 at the earliest. My preferred option would be to take out a 10 year fixed deal on a 10 year term. That way I would know that the mortgage…

Best way to release some equity?
I am looking to buy a particular property at an auction and decided to go against the mortgage route as the timescale would take too long and many probably wouldn't lend the money for an auction property. The quickest way I have realized would be to take some equity out of the home that I live in. At the moment we have…

Moving home - pay off debt with proceeds of sale?
Hi all, Any advice gratefully received. I hope to move house soon, paying off the Santander mortgage I have for my current property, and getting a new Nationwide mortgage for the new one. I'm wondering if Nationwide will care if I pay off some debt with the money I make from the sale, which will, of course, reduce the…
