Non Standard Restriction

Hi,
I am in the middle of remortgaging from Bank of Ireland (Post Office) to Coventry Building Society (CBS) and CBS's solicitors have picked up on the following in our deeds.
(29.07.2010) RESTRICTION: No disposition of the registered estate by the proprietor of the registered estate or by the proprietor of any registered charge, not being a charge registered before the entry of this restriction is to be registered without a written consent signed by (name 1 removed) and (Name 2 removed) of (Address removed) or their personal representatives.
On Friday they asked me to call them and asked that we write a letter giving permission to change the charge, which I've done.
But before I've got chance to post it back, they have come back saying what they said on Friday was incorrect and we have to remove this restriction from our deeds as it's non-standard.
Is that true? I bought with a friend, and as far as I'm aware this was just to protect us so one of us can't change the mortgage without the others permission.
They have now asked I send the letter in anyway, and they will speak to someone more senior.
Is this non-standard and do we need to remove it? Hopefully they will say the letter is fine, if not I'll probably go back to our original solicitor when we bought 5 years ago.
