Overpayment query
Hello all, First time poster, long time lurker. I'm hoping someone can provide advice on overpayments to a mortgage. I was wondering in choosing a 5 year fixed term mortgage, what would be more cost effective; 1) having the option to overpay 10% of the remaining loan fee free each year, or 2) paying off a lump sum after…

extra job to increase borrowing amount
Hi, I've recently been declined a mortgage for reasons of affordability. If I were to get an extra part time job, and then once I was in the house decided I could afford the mortgage without it and quit it, would that be ok? I will also be renting out two rooms in the house so I'm not too worried about being out of pocket.…

Mortgage Application - Is it normally this hard?
Myself and my partner want to buy a new home. I am 45 and she is 37. We've both been fully employed since Uni. We got together many years ago. My partner had her own flat. My small house was mortgage free ( due to following advice in this site). We kept the flat, rented it out and put some of our savings into the property.…

Buy to let mortgage - renting to family member
I've been looking for a buy-to-let mortgage provider who will allow you to rent to a family member, but it's explicitly prohibited by all mainstream lenders that I have approached so far. Has anyone found a provider who will do this? I wonder how many people don't check or tell their mortgage provider, but I want to do it…

Hi, I hope someone can help me as I am trying to buy a converted barn and coming up against differing opinions from both my solicitor and the vendor's solicitor on the necessary guarantee/certification. 80/20 mortgage deals
we took out a deal 3 years ago thinking we could get a further advance for the 20% that we didn't own. We are now told that we cannot get a mortgage loan for this 20%. We have to pay it in one cash lump sum if we want to buy this remaining 20%. Is there any other way possible around this problem.

Banks Mortgage Intermediary Websites and the criteria information
Maybe a bit of clarity for those in the know. I always see a lot of questions regarding different bank criteria when looking at mortgages. The credit part is difficult and is obviously not advertised but there seems to be a lot of information for those looking for it. Listed Halifax one below but most banks have one if you…

Deed Of Trust
We need to decide how we own our future home. Ideally I like the look of joint tenants, as if one person was to die, the other would get to retain the deceased's share. But one of us is putting in more money than the other one, so if we were to split up (unmarried at present) how would each person get their fair share back…
