Mortgage redemption and state benefits
If someone receiving benefits used their savings to clear their mortgage thus bringing their savings below the £16000 threshold and becoming eligible for more benefit. Would the DSS (or whatever they are called) object? I wouldn't have thought there would be a problem but does anyone know? Thanks

Mistakes on my Credit Report - Will they stop me getting a mortgage?
Hey Guys, Ive put an offer in on a house today and its been accepted. Ive just done a credit check on myself as I have no reason to believe that it will be bad. Ive always paid the full balance outstanding on my credit card, and paid back loans etc on time. However last month Orange (mobile phone company) messed up taking…

Remortgage needed with poor credit
I know times have changed in the adverse credit market, but I'm hoping to get a remortgage, I contacted moneysupermarket.com and they said that they can do nothing for my circumstances which suprised me a bit, so if anyone has any recommendations it would be appreciated. I jointly own a property which is valued at around…

When you apply for a mortgage does it affect your credit check?
I dont know a great deal about credit checks or credit ratings, thats why Im asking this question. I consulted a mortgage broker, asked how much we could borrow, gave him lots of details, he came back to us after a few days (presumably he did a credit check) and said Halifax can lend you xxx C & G xxx. Will we get a mortgage? Advice please
I know I can (up to 103k on my own). Here's scenario- our flat is under hubby's name. He's never missed a mortgage payment. BUT he did incur a lot of bank charges and missed credit card payments. He owed about £4k which is nothing but he panicked and took out a dept consolidation loan in dec. He has now cancelled that as…

One quick question guys
Think im being a bit dull but i just cant find the answer. Say i take a fixed rate mortgage out at 3.5% fixed for 2 years - then it reverts to 4.2% APR after the deal ends. Does this mean that 4.2% APR means roughly 3% above the BOE base rate. Which means when the deal ends in 2 years and the BOE base rate is at say 4%…

Rate Hunter
My mortgage is due to complete it's current 2 Yr Fixed Rate period and I'm considering a One Account. However, that's not the point of the post. I'm wondering about the cost of chasing the best rates. Let's say you have a 25 yr £100k mortgage and you chase the best rate every two years on either fixed, discounted, capped,…

End of mortgage deal - should we go onto Base Mortgage Rate
Title says it all! We're coming to the end of a two year mortgage deal (with Nationwide). By default, when our deal ends, we are switched to the Nationwide's BMR of 3.5% (whereas on the deal we have paid 5.58%). Looking at Moneysupermarket.com, the best deals available seem close to Nationwide's Base, so we're wondering if…

Build Extension or Pay off Capital?
Hi, we have recently inherited some money, roughly £20K and are wondering whether it would make more sense to use that money to build an extension on our house or pay off some of our mortgage. We are in a bungalow bought for £213,000 in December 07 and are finishing a 2 year fixed mortgage (fixed at 5.59%) of £180,000 in…
