Remortgage needed with poor credit

I know times have changed in the adverse credit market, but I'm hoping to get a remortgage, I contacted moneysupermarket.com and they said that they can do nothing for my circumstances which suprised me a bit, so if anyone has any recommendations it would be appreciated.
I jointly own a property which is valued at around £160,000, we do not have a mortgage as the house was gifted to us by a relative. We have a secure loan for around £15,000 and have just put plans in to have an extension on the house which would increase the value to around £230,000.
We are looking for a loan/remortgage for £80,000 in total to pay for the work and to clear existing borrowings.
We have no CCJ's but each have a default registered from around a year ago which is now cleared, we have the odd account with a late payment but most items on our credit files say satisfactory.
I've probably shot myself in the foot by applying for a few credit cards recently (and being rejected)
Does anyone know of any mortgage brokers or companies who would be able to help us in our circumstances.
Thanks..... Alan

It's certainly possible but given your adverse credit you would be best off speaking to a decent whole of market broker.0
