It's unbelievable, but true, that many people swapping deals don't look beyond the interest rate or monthly payments. The consequences of not using a broker ;)

Remortgaging - are we doing the right thing?
Hi all, I have posted before about our problem but am going to harp on about it again as it's exercising my brain on a daily basis. We're going through the process of remortgaging with Abbey. They are our only option (other than sticking with Kensington at end of fixed rate, which is not a preference due to their high…

Phoenix Endowment - Advice required please
Hi All I hope that one of you kind folk out there will be able to offer me some advice. First off, I know next to nothing about endowment policies - for example I have no idea what a 'managed fund' is. My husband took out an endowment policy back in 1989, only paying £25 a month to it. This endowment isn't connected to our…

re-mortgage recommendations with 5 yrs remaining
Hi All I'm helping my Mum remortgage as her 4.89% fixed rate comes to an end in November and woud like to start the ball rolling now. She has only got 5 years remaining on the mortgage and I think it would be best to fix the remainder for 5 years then she's not got to worry about going through the process again or incur…

Give 'em The Keys And Walk Away?
A semi- serious question or two (although the more I think about it...): I'm not in negative equity yet (although mortgage is about 95% of supposed value at present) but sure its only a matter of time as price continue to fall. Any merit in the suggestion that I just stop paying the mortgage and hand them the keys and then…

Endowment Questions
Hi, I'm a total newbie so forgive me if I'm trampling on protocol here as this is my first post. I have endowment assurance with Standard Life due to mature in 2011. It's short of the original target by about 8-10k and the company have been warning me about that for at least 5 years to be fair to them. I didn't do anything…

I'm in a position to pay off my mortgage early and have asked the Building Society for a final settlement statement, which they have sent me. Abbey offset mortgage and savings
I have a question. I have asn offset mortgage with Abbey with 90% of the mortgage in cash sitting in the account. If Abbey were to go under, would that pay off 90% of the mortgage, or would we lose our money and the massive amount of our mortgage that is, in effect, paid off by having it offset in savings?
