How does it work?
I am thinking about getting the "one account" mortgage in the future. How do you actually overpay every month so that the term is dramatically reduced? I would have a surplus of about £1300 every month, and would like to pay this amount off the capital except when going on holiday and christmas etc. So,would the mortgage…

How best to use a lump sum
My 2 year fix with Nationwide comes to an end at the end of July and have re-fixed with them at 4.39% for 2 years. I have been fortunate to have inherited a lump sum of around £30k and intend to pay that off the mortgage. Doing my sums, this will cost me £600 in repayment fees but save me (net of fees) £2000 over the 2…

Staff Mortgage @ BOE Base Rate
I am entitled to a staff mortgage at BOE Base Rate for the life of the Mortgage (4.75%) and will be moving from a First Direct Offset (5.75%) as I have now used up a large chunk of my savings so the offset is no longer good value. I know some fixed rates are better but I am not too keen on moving mortgages every 2 years or…

How Does This Mortgage Sound?
We are FTBs so are very new to all the mortgage and homebuying stuff. I am very good (I like to think) with finance matters so understand most of it. Complaint Upheld, but no compensation??
I received a phone call from The Bank of Scotland to tell me that they upheld the complaint on 2 counts on my endowment policy. However I am not entitled to compensation, because I have signed the policy over to my husband. As you can imagine I am fuming about this. The policy is still an endowment on my life and I have…

Endowment - What should I do next ?

Paying large deposit to the Solicitor/Conveyancer - Is this 100% safe?
When buying a house, the money (both your deposit and the money from the mortgage-provider) follows this route: Buyer > Buyer's solicitor > Seller's solicitor > Seller So at any one time either one of the solicitors has funds to the value of the price of the house in their account. What protetcts your money/interests in…
