Identity verification
With the need to keep moving our savings around to maintain a reasonable rate of interest, I have to open new accounts. Whilst my identify can be verified electronically, my husband has "failed" twice now. I rang the building society involved, and after much phoning around, discovered that as he has had no credit for the…

Implications of closing an ISA
I know we are told never to close an ISA but what are the implications if you do. I have roughly £8k sitting in an ISA paying 1.10%, money that I don't need to touch and I can earn over 4% gross on a fixed rate normal savings account so nett that is going to earn me much more than the ISA is paying. How will I lose out if…

Natwest E-ISA Interest Rate
I note that last month's interest on my Natwest ISA was less than the previous month's  (I have not withdrawn anything) and each month is a full month at the same amount invested plus interest. Obv the interest should be slightly more than last month's ... One some many comparison tables found on the net (money.co.uk…

Virgin Tracker ISA - cash in the profit and run?
I opened a Virgin Stocks & Shares Tracker ISA on 3 July with £3900 - now, 5 weeks later, it's valued at £4400 - an earning of £500 in just 6 weeks - I was obviously lucky with the recent climbs in the stock market. Question - do I stay with it - part of me thinks it's unlikely to go much higher and I should take the profit…

Going travelling in Feb 2010 and need ISA now
Hi there, I am going away backpacking for 6 months starting in February 2009. I have managed to save £6,000 which is currently sat in a Current Account and not doing a lot for me. I am thinking that I should put it in an ISA/Savings Account. I currently have an Alliance & Leicester Direct ISA Issue 4 which I don't have any…

Stocks&Shares or Cash ISA?
Hi, I have about £6000 currently locked into a bank account where I get a better interest rate if I don't withdraw anything. I'd like to invest it in an ISA - I've read Martin's guide to the difference between stocks & shares and cash ISA but I don't know which is better for me?? Is it better to invest in the stocks &…

ISA Transfer Times
Can anyone confirm that banks etc are obliged by HM Revenue and Customs rules to arrange transfers of cash ISAs in no more than 30 days? I have had BIG trouble transferring my ISA from RBS to NatWest. I first sent forms on April 25th and I've been told today, August 13th, that the money has finally reached my new NatWest…

A newbie here, I wish to transfer a cash ISA (from previous years) from RBS to Intelligent Finace. IF send me a letter of authority form for the account, and state that I should forward the letter to the current ISA provider. Could anyone please tell me who I should send the letter of authority to? Is it the branch where…

Newcastle BC 5% cash Isa
I recently opened Newcastle's cash Isa plus previous years Isa balances and on trying to obtain account details to pay in was informed I was no longer allowed to invest in this account as it was discontinued. My question is: I was told by the Newcastle I can keep my existing cash in the 5% account and can open another cash…

Funds - worth it over 5 yrs?
Hi All, I intend to move house in the next 3-5 yrs and to facilitate this I'd like to make sure i'm adopting the right approach to savings over this period. I have around 1k per month to save / invest. However i'm not sure whether to get started on setting up a S&S ISA or simply to just 'save' the cash. Welcome all…

Can Martin Lewis please sort out ISA's?
I am absolutely fed up with banks/building societies offering interest rates on their standard accounts which are greater than on their ISA accounts. eg currently Cheshire 1 year fixed rate account is 3.75% yet their 1 year ISA bond is 3.00%. The list goes on and on. In my opinion there is absolutely no justification for…

EGG Cash ISA 2008-2009
I opened a cash ISA with EGG last summer following a recommendation from this website. I'm sure the interest rate was about 6% . I recently got my interest added to my account and it was nowhere near that figure. Has anyone any ideas if this would have been a fixed rate or if it would have been open to varations??

Stocks and Shares ISA
I have an S&S ISA with an ititial charge of 5% and a yearly management fee of 1.5%. I was discussing this with a friend who said that this meant it needed a growth of 6.5% a year or 12.5 % over 5 years. This seems very high, is my friend right? I was hoping to pay more into it due to the low value of units at the moment…

Intelligent Finance - are they any good?
I have finally had enough of Abbey's total incompetence at managing my cash ISA and have decided to move what little is left in my account to another bank (there's only a little bit of money left in there as Abbey 'accidentally' transferred the rest to my current account ). I am looking at the Intelligent Finance ISA,…

How do ISA accounts work?
Hey, I have opened my first isa (I know it's late in the year but I can max it by April), but I am slightly confused how the accounting works. As you can only pay in £3,600 (£5,100) does that mean when the next year comes along you have to open another account? and when you open the next account will you only be able to…

Halifax fixed rate ISA - Transfer in & deposit?
Good morning. The OH has just opened a Halifax fixed rate ISA with the intention of transferring across a previous years ISA. However, she now has an additional lump sum to deposit as well. According to the website, it suggests no additional deposits are possible on the fixed account. She hasn't moved any funds yet but I…

Hi can anyone please advise - I have 4 years of full ISA allowance invested in fund through Hargreaves Lansdown. Am I able to sell the funds and then reinvest the proceeds in shares myself i.e. self invest and still keep everything safely under the ISA wrapper? Any advice would be appreciated, thanks Scott
