Putting scotchgard on carpets?
Has anyone done this? did it help? Should I just use any can of scotchguard or purchase a special type? Anyone have an estimate of how many cans to do an average sized room? Also is there another non branded spray that will do the same thing but cheaper? I guess I am going to need quite a few cans! Thanks

Neighbours installed windows into a boundary wall
I live in Scotland. Our property is enclosed by an old dry stone wall, except on one side where the boundary is the wall of the neighbours' house. We have lived here nearly 20 years and in all that time it has simply been a plain white painted stone wall without any openings. We had potted trees and flower tubs against the…

Re-sealing sink..
Hi all, Need to re-seal sink as the existing seal is showing its age. Would normally do it the normal way with sealant gun, but there is not much space at the back edge due to wall, and be " angled " out of it ( assuming the sink was fitted into worktop before worktop fixed ) Can you buy " mini sealant guns " or else buy…

Old Microwave Oven - Any Risks?
We're still regularly using an old Panasonic microwave oven (NN-5450 800W) which is now around 30 years old, but which still works absolutely fine. Does anyone know if there any health risks from such an old microwave oven, as we've no other possible reason to change it yet?

Can I stop the council painting my house?
Or maybe the title should be HOW can I stop them? A bit of an ongoing farce. For some time now I've been thinking about having the front wall of my privately owned terraced property sandblasted to restore the stone's natural appearance. Several other properties in the area have had it done and look so much better. This…

Clothes smell after a wash
Got a washing machine which is roughly 14 years old and live in a hard water area. Washes are done on 30° cycle. Sometimes one or two clothes will stink after a wash. It's a foul strong odour. Price to move a boiler
Hi, Does anyone have any rough ideas on how much it will cost to move a boiler? The boiler is less than 2 years old but we have moved the kitchen and utility around and want it moved to allow more space. It needs to be moved from one external wall to the one next to it, about 1.5 metres in total max. The other wall is also…

Acoustic insulation
Hi we are currently having acoustic insulation retro fitted in a 5yo house as it was not fitted from new. The fitters state that tiled wet rooms (bathrooms, en-suites) do not need doing. I cannot find any info on tiled walls satisfying AD-E. They also say walls with fitted wardrobes do not need doing. I think they just…

Estimate used in a Formal Contract
Can someone advise the legality of Writing into a Contract reference to an Estimate (not a quote) but the Agreed Contract figure being less than the Estimate. I am right to apply a blanket discount to all items estimated to reach the Agreed Contract sum (less than Estimate)? Also if items are not done as per the Estimate…

Underfloor Heating
Hi Has anyone got any experience on underfloor heating? I'm going for the electric type. I have seen the roll mats that can be connected together and also the single wire stuff. I've been told I need to lay heat mat first, then the underfloor heating (which ever one I choose) then pour some self leveller (as the area is…

We bought a bike shed for our front garden and put it up today.
