Bedding sizes??
I've been shopping online for new bed linen but a lot of websites list the sizes in centimetres, rather than the standard single/double/king. Would I be right in thinking that a double duvet cover is 200x200cm's, and a double sheet is 200x160cm's? And is a Pillow case 50x70?

Safety stamp on toughened glass?
If I purchase single sheets of toughened glass from a glazing company to replace single-paned float glass, should I ensure there is some sort of safety mark (i.e. British Standard mark, Kite Mark etc) etched/stamped on the panes? Was just wondering if such a mark is required to ensure the glass complies with regulations.…

Can't stop shower valve dripping
I'm installing a new shower and I can't make the pipes entering the mixer valve stop dripping. Both hot and cold (the one going up to shower head is ok). Got 1/2 inch male coupler. Tried PTFE tape, drips. Was recommended to try gas tape but still leaks, even with some no leak sealant gel. This is driving me crazy I don't…

Washer dryer recommendations?
My Beko washing machine gave up on me last night, it is 4 years old. I am thinking of replacing it with a washer dryer (in one machine) If it was just me on my own I'd just get a washing machine, but now there is 2 adults and a 1 year old. Now that winter is approaching drying all the clothes and bedding he gets through…

Shoddy Electrician
Hi I had my house re-wired in Jan 2014 with an electrician I found on mybuilder.com. He seemed reputable and was with Elecsa registered. When the work was nearly finished he left site without giving any certificates and left the whole place in a mess. I had a inspection report done which showed a whole load of problems…

Cowboy builder sawed through joist!
Looking for advice please. Had the bathroom refitted in our bungalow by a cowboy who walked off the job when I had someone else check his leaking plumbing! He said the bath was a nightmare to fit and now we've looked in the void we see he's sawn right through the joist in the void to fit the waste pipe through. The gap is…

Extension - Pre-payment for Materials
We would like to start work in a few weeks - it's a single story extension & extensive decking coming in around £80K. We are about to sign a contract with our preferred builder, and he has requested materials pre-paid before work commences and then labour billed fortnightly. The material bill is £50K. It seems like a VERY…

How do I repair/fill this?
Had a new gatepost fitted and the old mortar filling the gap between the post and the garden wall (on the street) has partly fallen out: [IMG][/img] My mortaring skills are modest - I've managed to repoint where necessary, but I couldn't for the life of me keep any mortar in the bigger gap. How would I go about repairing…

How much underlay should I spare?
Hello all I need another advice please... I am in a process of getting some carpets for my new house. Instead of going to a carpet shop to get everything ordered and done in one place, I decided to order different bits and bobs myself from the internet to save a few quid. I worked it out the total area to be covered by…

Part 2 ballcock valves
My toilet used to be a place where I could sit and think, but not anymore. I’ve replaced an old Part 1 ballcock valve with a Part 2, and now instead of peace and quiet all I hear is an irritating slow drip drip echoing from the cistern behind me. The tank fills with water quickly with a rush as you would expect. Then a…

Hiding a bed + Boxes
Me and my partner have just moved into a new 2 bed flat (furnished). It is the perfect size, or it would be except for one thing - there is 0 storage. Our old flats have always had a cupboard or underbed storage or something, but this flat has nothing. The beds are large block beds. The second bedroom has been converted to…

Getting a discount from an independent Kitchen Company.
We are currently planning an entire refit of our kitchen. We are getting quotes from local independent Kitchen Companies offering medium to high quality bespoke kitchens. We are not dealing with the likes of Wren, Wickes, Magnet etc who usually overprice by 200% so they can then offer large discounts. What kind of margins…

TV aerial
There are two TV aerials in the house I moved into recently. One in the master bedroom is fairly new, and works well. There is also one downstairs in the sitting room. This is not connected. It has been fitted into the wall, and seems to date from the 1970s. The aerial on the roof is also from about the 1970s. TV reception…
