How much underlay should I spare?

Hello all
I need another advice please...
I am in a process of getting some carpets for my new house. Instead of going to a carpet shop to get everything ordered and done in one place, I decided to order different bits and bobs myself from the internet to save a few quid.
I worked it out the total area to be covered by carpet is 62sqm, and I will need to some underlay as well. In terms of the wastage, how much underlay should I spare for the 62sqm area please?
Many thanks...

I would say you need exactly the same amount of underlay as carpet.:A:dance:1+1+1=1:dance::A

MarleyBoy, that's not strictly accurate ( sorry, not meaning to argue !! ). But to cover 62sqm, you'll need 62sqm of underlay - underlay can be cut into bits to fit the space, it doesn't matter whether it's one continuous piece or lots of little bits.
For carpet, you don't want any joins. So you usually end up buying more than you need, depending on the width of the roll, and end up with quite a lot of offcuts. That's why most carpets are made in a range of widths - you choose the width according to the size and shape of the room, the aim being to waste as little as possible yet still be able to do the room with a single piece.0 -
Depends the shape of your room, for instance we have a square bays with about 1 mtr sq either side, so that and two large chimney breasts/hearth come out of the equation. I would say work out the main area widest areas and see how much you would have left on a roll (for the alcoves), if you still have length for those areas. Many big carpet shops try to sell you as much as the carpet (as well as too much carpet) to increase their profit, their own fitters benefit from the leftover underlay! But as it does not come in the same size/width you may need less depending on the size shape of your room......that's what my independent told me anyway.Sunshine0

All the rooms are in rectangle shape apart from the master bedroom which has an odd space for a built-in wardrobe.
So based on the fact that most of the rooms are rectangle, should I still get 62sqm of underlay without sparing any wastage?
Many thanks0 -

Yes just get 62sqm and cut it to size. As long as your calculations are correct you'll have little to no wastage and no shortfall.:footie:Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)
