Plug stuck in bath.
Just got a new bathroom fitted at end of June, last night when I went to let the water out of the bath I couldn't get the plug to pop up. The plug is the type where it has a silver dial thing that you turn and the plug pops up, but it wouldn't turn at all. We managed to get all the water out using pots but we still have…

Utility resilience information
Does anyone know of a utility services resilience map or deposit of information that shows how often what utilities fail in a certain area? For the 5th time this year the water main on my street has burst, and I'd like to be able to check on resilience information for the next house move.

Neighbour has buit raised shed looking into our windows!
Hi When we bought this house one of the main reasons was that the garden, and therefore the back windows, were not overlooked. To be honest we would never have considered it if there was no privacy. Our new neighbours have recently built a raised play shed (complete with plain glass windows looking directly at our house…

Buying new washing machine, don't want soap drawer on the left !
This may sounds like a weird question, but here goes.... Does anyone know of a washing machine brand/model to buy that does not have the soap dispenser on the left hand side? The reason is that our kitchen is designed so that where the washing machine has to go there is limited space on the left side as it is in a corner.…

Roof Moss cleaniong..........
I've just got roof moss (and all sorts) gathering up and it keeps falling in the gutter pipe. Need a clean now but I was hoping to get it done without climbing on top of the roof and without any pressured jet sprays. Are there telescopic sprays available in the market ?? We have a bungalow so it would be easy to climb on…

Conservatory help needed!
Hi, we moved into our property in 2009 and we have "put up" with the conservatory up until now. We are at a crossroads as to what to do. Suggestions needed! The conservatory was built without bricks - which basically renders it useless in the winter (due to no radiators!) and causes mold/condensation. Is there an easy way…

Council built a fence and limited access to my back garden
We're a mid terrace and the house next to us is council owned. We have a path that goes down the side of next doors house and along the bottom of their garden giving us access into our own back garden. The council have just erected a new fence around the garden which is fine, however they've come quite a bit into the path.…

gutter can't cope
After a huge thunderstorm yesterday, our house started taking in water. It was coming through the top of the first floor landing window, and through the top of the frame of the front door (immediately underneath the landing window), and into the cellar, (again, immediately under the other two areas). A roofer came out…

Bricks vs blocks & render, or something else?
The time has come to finally wave goodbye to my collapsing rear wall. Most of the top third is rotten/ blown, and the rest is severely damaged (age, north-facing, and busy road). I also need to replace the garage door (brown one is mine) and side gate (black). I've had a quote for demolish + rebuild in brick, garage door,…

Oven heating element changed. Too many connectors an issue?
Dear forum users, I have recently changed the heating element in my main oven as the old one was not working. The new one is connected and having tested it the oven is now working again. YAY! However, I just have a little worry that I wanted to check: Basically, the old heating element that was already in the oven had only…

Garden ruined by neighbour's plant
We moved into our home just over two years ago and during the first Summer we noticed shoots from our neighbour's bamboo tree poking up regularly and randomly all over our front garden. We pointed this out to them but they did nothing about it (then). (Our neighbour's house was the former show home and as such had a…

Getting suggestions for splitting hosue into flats?
I'm about to embark on my first house to flat conversion (a 5 bed Victorian wreck of nearly 2,000 ft2 with a further 1,000 ft2 out the back which is currently 3 garages and hard standing in SE4). As a confirmed skinflint, I'm looking to reduce the eye-watering costs of this sort of project. I think I'll come into my own in…
