Is it safe - live cable wrapped in insulation tape
We are slowly gutting out our place and I have asked a handyman to remove a kitchenette from the 1st floor of my house so that I can get an additional council tax banding removed (self contained granny annex in a house I just bought). We switched off the mains electricity, removed a cooker hob and then wrapped the…

Double glazing.
Some of the window panes to the rear of or house are now misting over, so need replacing. I understand that offers to demist, without replacement are a waste of money, but have people found replacing individual units (plus having all seals renewed) to be more cost effective than complete replacement of windows ? Also, are…

Underfloor heating thermostats
Can I use any thermostat I want? I don't like the Warmup 'stat so have got another but then the fitter wonders whether they are compatible? Logic says they should be but don't want to waste a ton. I've bought the thermotouch 4.3iC and the Warmup ProWire heater. Neither company will commit to saying it will or won't work.

Getting new flooring down, and before having the carpets fitted upstairs, wanted the creaky floorboards sorted, ... had a brief go myself, and it’s not the job for me. Have, so far, only sought to get A1 Little Job Man to quote me on the work, but they won’t even come have a look for another 4 weeks, as totally swamped…

Neighbour dispute
I recently bought a house which I do not yet live in due to major renovations being undertaken. I recently replaced the soffits as they were hung too low incorrectly and I couldn't open the upstairs windows. They were at the same level as my neighbour who wouldn't have noticed a problem as they have flap windows. As the…

Gas inset fire, anyone had pebbles?
Hi, we are updating our fireplace (been meaning to do it for months!). Has anyone got a gas fire with pebbles rather than coals? I was told in one shop that the pebbles will go black. Our coal effect one does but obviously you can't see it. Any experience anyone please? Many thanks.

Gravelling a driveway, looking for some advice please? :)
Hi everyone! In our new (/old) house we currently have an old concrete driveway, a grass front garden and some paving slabs which have been laid on soggy mud to park on. The concrete has blown in quite a few places as it has been laid on red shale, which apparently creates gas..hence the blown concrete (it's the same round…

Strange green powder with mold
Hi I had mold on the inside of an external solid wall, I went to DIY store and they gave me a fungicidal wash and asked me to clean the wall with it.
