Never owned one but have a few jobs around the home that need doing soon mainly into wood.
Spotted a 3.6v battery driver locally and wonder if its worth investing in or would I need somehing more powerful..?
Cheers

What do you intend to do?0

Have a couple small units to put together ,lots of wooden slats to be screwed into a frame that will make up a section of fencing and eventually make a fire surround:j0

Get a decent 3.6v Lithium ion one such as the Bosch Ixo. They were around £20 at Christmas but seem to have gone up to around £40 now.0

Probably a bit lightweight for making a fire surround.0

Go for an 18v one. You can get a decent one for £100. Picked up a dewalt one myself last weekend, two batteries and all the power you'll need for DIY. You'll not regret it!0

I've got a cheap Wickes own-brand 3.6V cordless screwdriver. It did me for boarding out the loft, and for other odd jobs around the home. I can't think of any reason to pay £100 for a screwdriver for a bit of DIY.If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.0 -

Aye we got one free with a power drill a couple of years ago and it's been good.
Much better than the old nicad ones, although not as powerful as a larger cordless drill (but then for most small jobs it's more than enough, and much more comfortable to use, especially in tight places).0 -

Guess it depends how handy you are and how much DIY you do. I do almost everything myself with the exception of electrics and plastering as have mates in the trade who charge next to nothing and get it perfect!0 -
what about this one

I've got one of those Bosch ones, which cost about £30, and frankly, it's no better than a similar one with less packaging that aai got in IKEA for well under a tenner. They are great for relatively lightweight repetitive jobs like assembling flatpacks or basic DIY carpentry or driving fixings into plugs in walls. I usually drill pilot holes for longer or heavier screws or use an 18v or corded drill on slow speed for heavy work as these little drivers obviously aren't as good as the pro ones. But if I was a DIY-er I'd choose the eight quid IKEA over the £35 Bosch. The £150+ De Walt is way above my pay-grade!0
