Help woodworm - treat before demolition or after?
Have just bought a 1930s house which needs major overhaul/refurb and beginning to wish I hadn't!! We were told on the survey that it had woodworm in the loft, garage and utility room (old type with downstairs 'loo' and coalhouse). The beetles have now emerged (told it's the season!) and are flying all over the utility room…

Electric Stove Fires - clearances
We are planning to put an electric stove fire in the corner of our lounge. Can we put it as far into the corner as it will go? If this happens then there will be a triangle of space behind and to the sides. I would think that as they are essentially just fan heaters, then they need air like normal fan heaters?

Re-wiring

What can I use my travertine for?
Hi My OH has just taken out the built in 1970s fireplace/alcove/tv stand from our sitting room. Although the vertical surfaces were nasty tiles, the horizontals were lovely travertine. Airing cupboard advice
Just hoping for a bit of advice please. Shortly we are losing the hot water tank in the air cupboard (along with the back boiler and gas fire in the living room) and having a combi installed. The main benefit of an airing cupboard is the easy drying of clothes - we're in a second storey flat which is actually three floors…

Cheapest place for plain white toilets
Im looking to purchase 2 plain white toilets, no need for them to be fancy, just close coupled white china bogs. They are to replace the cloak room loo (horrible plastic cistern, I hate it!) and the toilet in the WC on the first floor (a mink coloured monstrosity, I hate it!) So where would you recommend I try to buy these…

Fixing toilet - how much have I saved?
Am feeling very smug with myself as I have managed to fix my toilet - all by myself! Never done anything plumbing-wise before other than copious applications of PTFE to stop a leak in a radiatior valve while I waited for a plumber to turn up. It's a Gala toilet with a dual button flush on the top of the cistern and it had…

I have an external wall, inside my conservatory, that is rendered. The flat roof to the building previously leaked (roof now replaced), and pulled off some of the rendering. How easy would this be to patch in to the existing render? Is this something i could attempt myself? It doesnt have to be perfect!;):o:beer:

Are repair costs for damp from external walls split between flats?
Hi I live on the ground floor flat of a building with only one other flat above us. We have a damp issue on the walls in our front bedroom, and it looks like it has been caused by leaks through the sides of old windows (which I have just replaced with new UPVC double glazed) as well as external bricks becoming hollow /…

New kitchen, built-in cooker or freestanding?
We are planning on having a new kitchen fitted and I can't decide if I should have a slot in/free standing cooker ( the type I have now) or a built in one for a more streamlined look.
