Oven door not closing properly
I have a Stoves Newhouse cooker with a double oven. One of my little darlings has stood on the pulled-down door of the bottom oven in order to reach something at the back of the counter (no one is owning up to it). As a result the hinge is now strained and the door no longer closes properly. Apart from wasting energy and…

Joining 6mm squared cable
Friend of mine has 6mm sq cable supplying his shower. He was nailing down some boarding in his loft and has damaged the cable. Question - is it possible to split and rejoin the cable as he doesn't have enough slack to cut it and thread through to the shower. My first thought was to use a junction box but the max rated one…

Vinyl tiles on top of laminate ?
I know (think ?) you're supposed lay vinyl floor tiles on top of hardboard and all that but the small room I'm thinking of doing has a perfectly sound, level laminate floor already in place. Can I just stick the tiles on top of it ? - or do I have to do it 'properly' ?

Painting newly plastered walls
I have recently had my walls skimmed and the plasterer said that the best thing to do was to buy a gallon of cheap emulsion and add a cup of water to it to use as a base coat.
