renting after selling
Hiya, I wonder if someone could help me ... so I've recently (June 2017) bought a house with my partner, unfortunately we've split up now and obviously need to sell the house. (probably next year due to a 2 years fixed mortgage) Due to his job he is away most of the time in another country so it's all up to me to sort it…

New homeowner, how much to stash for maintenance etc
I'm a long time renter about to move into my first home and I guess I need to start budgeting for all those things that used to be looked after by the landlord. General upkeep, repair work, maintenance of the building etc but not sure how much is sensible to put aside. Is there a ballpark figure for this kind of thing?

When to pay solicitor
Hi all, We are currently buying a new build house and the solicitor is asking for his fee to be paid in full before exchange. I have never paid until completion before (a number of purchases over about 30 years) and there was nothing stating this in the initial letter they sent. I have already paid £250 towards searches,…

Idea: Buying house with large land and constructing second new house on it!
Hi, I was wondering how realistic is it for people who has no experience of construction (or creating extension or loft conversation) of buying a house with large back garden (for e.g.) with a view that one day you could create a second house on that land and sell it. I know its possible and it have been done. But it prob.…

Debt Collection Letters and Fines for Previous Owner
We moved into our house last August. Prior to us buying it - the house was rented out to numerous tenants over the years so the owner we bought off hadn't actually lived in the house for quite a few years since splitting with his partner. For about the last 3/4 months (ie. not before about January time) we have been…

Made an offer, still waiting 3 weeks later.
FTB, looking to buy after renting for a long time. Have talked to bank as well as broker and finance side isn't an issue but finding the right place has been a pain. Most properties within 2-3 miles seem to be selling in 3-4 weeks and going for 10-15% over asking price which is still within my budget. Viewed a property…

Hi, In the process of buying a house. We have identified a potential issue in that a chimney stack to the ground floor and a wall have been removed. Estate agent's contract
My BIL is asking for advice on the draft contract he has received from his estate agent. I haven't sold a house in the last 25 years, so I'm very rusty.
