Living in a shared house - how to organise the finances?
Youngest son and 4 others who all work for the same company have found a big enough house to rent. How do they go about organising the finances? Is it possible to get a bank account - just a basic one with the names on with maybe 2 people as lead so that the standing orders for bills goes from one account? What else do…

Extending Leasehold
Would imagine this is not the first time this question is being asked but even after searching I am unclear on one bit: I am planning of buying a flat in London and most of them are leaseholds (not considering anything below 100 years lease). Obviously not relevant in my life time but if my descendants want to extend the…

Have offered over the asking price and then ....
My partner and I are first time buyers. We recently put an offer on our dream home of £162,500. The asking price was £164,950. Someone then put an offer of £165,000 a few days later. We then put our final offer of £168,000 on the property. It sat on the house for 6 days and the agent then rang me to ask was our amount of…

Hi I'm a first time property owner and I want to rent out my property. I have looked around and found a handful of estate agents, some corporate like your move/ ward n parthers and some independent. The corporate companies ask for more money compared to independents even though they provide the same service! I have been…

Keys for landlord and how to get landlord to "back off"
Landlord gave us notice on 11 March 2014 to be out by 7 June 2014 He is selling the house. We've been here for 7 years. Deposit was protected until sometime in 2011. We're not fighting to stay here and don't want the stress of trying to get deposit money back. We have a housing association house lined up which is waiting…

Rental negotation?
Being somewhat underwhelmed by the choice of local properties in our budget I'm wondering, is it worth aiming for say £100 pcm over budget and offering a 12 month minimum at our preferred price? I know it may then just lead to a rent hike at the end of the term but wondered if anyone else had had success with this?

Selling house but need flexible completion
I am paying cash for a new build, which is due to be finished by late August/September. I want to market my existing house now, but don't want to complete until new build is ready. Is it normal procedure to keep completion date flexible in this way ?

Rental - notice on informal tenancy
We have been renting from a friend of a friend for the past 18 months, really nice guy who we barely hear from to be honest. We like it that way as our previous agency LL never left us alone! We originally signed a 6 month lease (one just pulled off the internet that he found himself and filled in the blanks) but after the…

Unable to find somewhere to live
I am desperately trying to find somewhere to live for myself, husband and two grown up daughters, plus two small dogs but this seems to be impossible. We are currently running a pub but having given notice to the brewery landlord for various reasons I can't go into detail about. I have been looking for the past eight weeks…

Let only service rather than rent collection service
I let my property through Haart estate agents. I pay 80 pounds for their rent collection service (7.2% of rent 1100). I don't think it's value of money at all . new tenants are moving in today and I told them that I need let only service and not rent collection service. They are saying that let only service is 8% of the…

Seller won't provide indemnity policy for unnaproved loft conversion
We are almost at exchange and I am getting nervous. The only thing holding up the sale is that the solicitor needs an indemnity policy for the loft conversion, which was done without building regs, and will cost around £300. I am not concerned about the fact there are no building regs. That's all been checked and I have…

Is buying a house really that simple?
I've been reading these forums for months and the process of house buying looks like one of nightmares, issues, and complexities. However I've had barely any contact with anyone at all, it's been a simple case of, mortgage broker sorting out the mortgage, which has been confirmed. Getting a solicitor set up, and paying…
