Flat purchase
I've had an environmental search on a purpose built flat, that has come up as a site the local council will be inspecting for contaminated land (previous petrol station), albeit not a high priority. It is not currently designated contaminated land. Will the mortgage company reject the application on this basis, should I…

Splitting the cost of paperwork?
Hi there, First time poster, occasional lurker. I'm supposed to be moving into a new flat in a few days, but I just got a text from the girl currently living there saying that the paperwork for swapping the names on the tenancy agreement will be around £300. This seems expensive, but not horribly unreasonable. She offered…

I built a house on a self Build Mortgage. Full architectural, structural drawing where drawn up and council approved. Each stage…

First time buyer - To mortgage, or not to mortgage.
Hi all, I'm new to these forums although I've found myself here in the past when web searches have pointed to useful threads on various subjects. I've been speaking to friends and family and wanted to get some tips or advice from those more knowledgable than I am on matters of mortgages and home buying. I'm lucky to be in…

Their mortgage is due to be paid off in April, but due to underperformance (I think) there will be a shortfall of tens of thousands that Dad was hoping to make up with work and a few…

CHAPS payment missed by bank
Very briefly, arranged for a CHAPS payment to be made to cover the deposit and solicitors fees on a property purchase. Unfortunately the bank did not authorise the payment. Reason given, human error. Not sure where that leaves us in terms of the purchase. Any ideas where we stand in terms of compensation.

Estate agents and capital letters - just irks me
Why is it that estate agents in their property listings appear to have completely lost the grasp of capital letters? We get them appearing Completely Randomly, or the other one of Capitalising Every Single Word. Then we have one of the local ones who have exclamationmarkitis - a Cellar!!! warranted at least five in one…

Change of estate agent
There's a house I'm interested in, which I put in a series of offers on a few weeks ago (all refused). I told the EA that I wouldn't raise my offer, and for them to contact me if there were any developments. They called two weeks later, to say that the seller had potentially found somewhere and might want to re-open…
