Administrative error with rent - can you help?
In March 2009 I made a payment to my landlord of 750 pounds. Taking my debt down to 698. This was confirmed with the landlord and ever since then I have been receiving signed letters saying that I owe 698. However last week I received a further letter saying that in fact there has been an oversight and that the check…

Are estate agent fees still due, if you P/x with a developer instead
Hi, I was just wondering if you guys can offer any advice on the following: I put my house for sale in Jan this year with a local estate agent, and to be honest their service has been pretty poor, also with the market as it is I have only had 3 viewings. I have seen a nice flat and decided to sign up for a part exchange…

Would this put you off?
A new property has come on the market in an area I am interested in. A 3 bed mews for £127,950 I thought it seemed cheap for the area and size, so I did search to see when it last sold and it was for £135,000 in June 2010. Without being mega nosey and asking the estate agents (and i'm sure they wouldn't tell me the real…

Making an offer - but can't move til next year?!
Hello, I've lurked on this website for ages whilst waiting for my flat to sell - finally accepted an offer last week (has taken over a year!). Accepted £3k less than my minimum though - i.e. so I can't afford to buy anywhere until I save up that £3k again for my deposit. Bit gutting having lost all my deposit/equity in…

Will we have to pay tax on a "gifted" deposit for our first property?
I am looking to buy a flat with my partner to live in and we are hoping to put a deposit down of £45,000 (25% of the purchase price). £10,000 of the deposit is coming from my side - the sale of my car, and a gift from my parents/grandparents. £10,000 is coming from my partner, with whom I will be living with in the new…

Responsibility for rented property after keys handed back?
Hi Hopefully a question that's not too stupid: The last day of our tenancy is Monday 27th, but we're already moved out and just finishing up the cleaning etc. I wanted to arrange for the letting agent to come and check the property and hand the keys back as soon as we've finished the cleaning. I understand that we'll be…

To sell flat which is better, lounge/diner or kitchen breakfast room?
I have a one bedroom flat which needs lots of work before I can sell it, and would like some opinions on layout. At the moment the bathroom has to be reached by walking through the kitchen. The lounge just has room at one end for a small dining table. A builder has said if I have a wall moved he can fit in a small ensuite…

Thinking of Selling Up to Rent before buying again
Hi Desperate to move house but taking on a more expensive mortgage with lots of outgoings is not a possibility. We've had a plan to sell our house, use some of the money to pay off all our debts, stick the remainder in our savings and rent, saving all the money we used to pay our creditors. I can see this happening for…

Survey Query
Hi everyone, I hope you can help! We had our survey results last week and they have said they won't value the property until we have a full structural engineer in to look at the ground movement (I'm not sure of the exact phrasing of this problem)! Is this normal? Should we be worried? How much would this costs in the Leeds…

Spare 35k Buy to let maybe??
If I get the house I'm putting an offer in on today I will have around £30k left over. I was wondering what to do with it. Its part of a retirement pension scheme which I won't need for around 6 years. I thought I could maybe buy a small flat to rent out. I know a 25% deposit is required. Is this for all borrowers? Is it a…

Renting a property?
Hi all, I am thinking of renting a property from an estate agent and would like to know what insurances I would need? Also what would happen if I became poorly and unable to work or made redundant? I just want to make sure I am in the know before I make the step! Many thanks for your support.

Which house to go for?
Hi, would really appreciate your opinion on two houses in the same area, with the almost identical layout and in the similar condition, both ex-council. House 1: no private parking, you leave the car on the road (free but it's the hill) and walk along the path to the house. The path is exposed to the neighbours' gardens…

I keep reading the tenancy agreement and not seeing anything re: notice for vacating
the property. It is usually 30 days isn't it? The tenancy agreement "expired" back in January. I do still have to give notice to leave though, right?

My brother and I are trying to purchase a new build one bed flat for our elderly parents. They are providing the deposit and mortgage payments and while we are ‘facilitating’ the purchase by obtaining the mortgage. Initially we had agreed the following deal with the builders – Redrow: The property price is £79,995 The…
