Oh no - I'm about to crash a chain :(
Oh ho. A couple of months ago, me and the missus decided we're gonna need a bigger place for the additional member to our family that will be popping out of mummy's tummy pretty shortly. Anyways, we got carried away with how nice the new builds were a mile up the road from us and were really excited to see how great the…

Great house, but two next door are also for sale! Is it dodgy or a coincidence?
Hi all, My partner and I are first time buyers. We've seen a great house; good value, has the features we want in a decent area. It is one of three houses built together. However the two other houses on the left on the one we're interested in are also on the market. I've found out that one of the houses has been on the…

TV Tonight
Looks like house price obsessives (myself included) are in for a treat tonight on TV. Just about to start is "The Truth About Property" on BBC2, which looks like great TV for the bears on here, while the bulls can watch "How to Be a Property Developer" on C5 at 8pm also. Whoo-hoo!

Hi all, I have been living with mates/in hotels and basically all over the world/country for the last 5 years or so and have never payed council tax or been on the electoral register previously. Now I think its time for me to settle down and get myself a flat, but would the council ask for 5 years worth of council tax or…

Hi, My wife and I are buying a flat and are in the very final stages. Turns out the building was underpinned in 1988 and the insurance company were unaware of this. They have had a survey done and it has come back fine, they want to know the original reason for the underpinning but nobody seems to know, The freeholder has…

share of freehold - pros and cons
I have owned and lived in my leasehold flat for a couple of months. It's in a building of 3 flats. There is one other owner-occupier, the other flat is rented out. The landlord of the rented flat is keen for us to buy the freehold of the building in order to cut costs (service charge, lease extensions, ground rent, etc).…

Estate agent wants to charge 8% daily on costs owed. Im refusing to pay the £1k as the agent was utterly incompetent in handling the marketing. Surely trying to charge a trillion % APR, they cannot do this legally? a bit of adverse publicity could shut them up perhaps

I've bought a repossessed flat - what now?
When I looked around it, the toilets were all taped up and said something along the lines of not touching and getting in a professional plumber. Have they drained the system or something? What would a plumber need to do? Is the electric and gas normally cut off? So much to do, but very exciting. Thanks for your help!

My missus has put her house on the market with an estate agent a week or two before HIPS came in (for a 3 bedroom house). After promising it will be advertised the following week in the local paper it actually took them 3 weeks to advertise. And they still have not put a For Sale sign up in the front of the house, which…

West London asking prices are finally turning!!!
Those of you who've seen my earlier thread from a couple of weeks ago might be interested to know that THINGS ARE CHANGING even at the so-called 'premium' end of the market. House that was £925k in February is today £875k; the house has been on the market for 10 months with no offers. The first cut was made "unofficially"…
