The Northants Evening Telegraph are mounting a huge petition to send to the energy minister demanding that greedy utility companies lower their prices in response to falling energy prices. Here's the link: http://www.northantset.co.uk/cut/Back-our-call-to-cut.4726562.jp Why not make it a national petition - let's all get…

All electric flat?
New poster here but long time reader. My query regards the pros and cons of moving into such a property. I am due to soon, however a brief look on this forum suggests that the LL's promise of cheaper bills may have simply been hard sell! It is a recently completed refurb in a conversion and the insulation seems to be good,…

Hi I live in a rented place with a hopeless private landlord! My shower is electric and is heated by pulling the emersion cord before turning the unit on - the shower won't even flow with the cord being pulled. My price fix with Southern on both gas and electricity ends today. I have taken meter readings, so do I phone them with the readings tomorrow - bearing in mind that they bill six monthly, so will not get a bill until February - or do I let them estimate what my usage on the lower rate has been?? Is it likely to be in my…

All day heating?
What is the best way to heat the house. Have got a combi boiler, timer, and thermostat. Plus TRV on all radiators. 1) Set timer to come on an hour before getting up, hour before getting home from work. This way means that the house is having to reach top temp from a cold start. 2) Leave heating to all day (maybe at a…

Switch now or wait for (possible) cut first?
Hi all, As the title says really - I've put my details into energyhelpline and its coming out that I could save around £200 per year by switching to npower or a little bit less switching to eon. I'm thinking of switching to eon as their customer service seems to get more positive feedback. Anyway - just wondering if its…

HELP! £1000 final bill from british gas out of nowhere!
Hi, I switched from BG to Scot Power in June. We were on the click 5 tariff, we paid DD and I would always pay any extra due on the account if we were in debit. Now I have out of nowhere £1000 due on the account. I phoned to find out where this came from and they said the amount we were paying monthly was not large enough…

British Gas Switch
Hi, I've just changed online from British Gas standard dual fuel to British Gas Click Energy 6. I have agreed to all the terms and conditions, however some websites are giving conflicting information. Can anyone confirm whether you have to take your own meter readings and do you get told when to do this? Or is it the same…

Overnight cheap electric rates hours are not what you may think
As I recently moved to Scottish Power to get a fixed rate deal, I wanted to know which overnight hours gave me the cheap rate. I spent ages looking for the information, failed to find it so finally emailed them to ask. The reply came that it depends on the actual supplier in my area rather than the billing provider, so had…

BRITISH GAS - First Class Service !!
I got a "battery Fail" message on my prepayment meter last night. It took about 5 minutes to speak to a (UK) operator when I phoned at 11 am today. She promised an engineer within 4 hours - and he arrived an hour later, friendly and knew what he was doing, fixed the problem and left!
