Become your own energy supplier
If the energy supply to your home comes from one place and when you switch suppliers your supply does not change. What is stopping individuals from setting themselves up as an energy supplier and billing themselves. This way you would only pay the real costs. I theory can this work? I know this sounds simplistic but I am…

Have I capped my gas and leccy properly?
Hi all, my first post on here so hope I've done it right. On the advice of this site I changed my utilities over to a capped rate a couple of weeks ago. Eon came out sheapest according to the comparison sites. A couple of days ago Atlantic rang me up to try and keep me. They told me that even though I'd got a capped rate…

Switching for Students
While the main articles on this site advise switching to capped price tariffs (as a rule), I will be at my next address for less than 9 months (Student accommodation). Is it still worth capping, paying slightly more and risking a severance fee for just 9 months, or is it best to go for a standard tarriff? What would be…

Supplier
I am just about to move into a rented flat, all going well. I was wondering how I find out what the current supplier to the flat is. It is a pre paid meter at the moment.

Does anyone know.....
Hi Now that Scottish Southern have raised their prices how are you able to compare the price of the units in Duel Fuel eg: I have just gone to SWALEC (always been with them for the leccy) but was with B/Gas for the Gas but have just gone over to SWALEC for both (Duel Fuel) so out of the two companies which one is now…

Council rent includes heating charge & costs more than my annual electricity bill?
Hi, I rent a bedsit from Southampton City Council. My rent is charged weekly and includes £6.79 a week for heating. The rent is charged 48 weeks of the year. We've just received a letter saying that they are going to increase the heating charge for all tenants by 5% from October. This will mean that my heating charge will…

Utility Switch Site Rip-Off?
After yesterday's price hike by E-On I had another look at switching away. Uswitch shows an annual saving of £38 moving to NPower, Which shows £202! Both have the same unit prices etc. Instinct tells me that USwitch is nearer the mark, so is Which to be trusted? Somebody is wrong. Mandy

How many times can you switch? Does it go on addresses?
Evening all At my previous address I switched suppliers but wasn't actually at the address long enough for the switch to take place. I'm now at a new address so can I take advantage of the switch again and go through the cashback sites Martin advises, or have I had my 'switch' chance?! Thanks

Was going through quidco with £60 cashback on dual fuel but in the small print its only for new customers (i already have gas from them), supermarket dot com offer £30 on dual fuel, but there's no button next to the b.g. to apply for it, and energy…

Pressing the ignite button as it suggest whilst holding down the other button and nothing happens. Is the likely to be something easy to fix, everything seems to fire up alright,…

Owl energy monitor
Hello, I have recently purchased an Owl Electricity monitor, and am getting myself all confused (doesn't take much trust me!) One of the features the unit has is the ability to see how much your current usage is costing per hour. When installing you need to programme the unit up with your unit costings for electricity in…

Service bill dilemma for gas.
- I moved into a new property I'd bought in June-07 (a development site), and duly paid service bills, via an internet account, as they arrived from Scottish Power for electricity. - It was after some time maybe 8-9 months that I realised I'd never had a gas bill. - So I'm now a bit concerned that if I call up British Gas…

British Gas Fixed Price 2011 - hidden charge?
BG quote "At the end of the Fixed Price 2011 period we may switch your product(s) to another Price Protected capped or fixed price product if it is available or standard product if it is not." It currently costs £100 to switch out of a dual fuel fixed tariff so if you want to revert to back to Click Energy 5 at the end of…

BG and imperial-to-metric meter change
Call me slow but the recent price hikes finally prompted me to scrutinise my bills to see what savings can be found. I have British Gas bills going back to April 2006 after which they changed my meter from imperial to metric. Looking at the figures I am now wondering if I have been overcharged because my kWh consumption on…

What does your house cost in fuel?
I'm never sure whether my bills are high/low compared to other people. I realise that there are many factors contributing to energy consumption but I wondered if it was worthwhile posting individual actuals from which people can guage there own usage as being efficient? National average fuel bills quoted never seem to be…
