British Gas business rates (help)
I started a small business back in 2003, and was contacted by British Gas who I get my electricity from, to see if I wanted to go onto their business rate as I run a business from home. It seemed like a good deal so I agreed. I have just received a bill from them for £1102.22 As this is the biggest utilities bill I have…

Turning gas boiler off.
I have a dishwasher and an electric shower so think that I could save by turning my gas boiler off instead of switching it to hot water only use during the summer. Does the boiler use up a lot of gas when it's used for hot water only? Is it ok to switch the boiler off for weeks at a time?

has anyone had the wrong meter
The situation I have is that one night my electric failed and when I went down to check the fuse box and meter I found that the meter for my house was still running but the meter for the flat next door to me was off. I've done several checks and everything points to the meter that relates to my home doesn't match the meter…

EDF 11 hour off peak tarif
Can anybody advise. It appears I'm stuck with EDF as supplier of electricity as I've been told that other suppliers don't provide a similar scheme. As comparison sites don't recognize the scheme, I've not been able to assess wether I'm getting a good deal or not. As I understand the situation, I would have to get my 11…

Should I fix or stay put?
I never thought I'd hear myself saying that I may swop to British Gas but their Fix until 2011 does sound attractive. I'm currently with EDF on their Online V5 tariff and BG have quoted me the following (with vat) prices. Gas 1st 670kWh @ 7.563p Rest @ 3.814p Electricity 1st 125kWh @ 26.909p (wow!!) Rest @ 11.804p Looking…

Have just switched - cost more than we were told
Hi we switched to Scottish power capped til 2009 and it was going to be over £200 cheaper a year than our current EDF deal (before the price rise) We've now received the paperwork and it's only £10 a month less direct debit than we're paying now? How do they get their figures. We only compared by our monthly direct debit…

Time to take a stand.....
yesterdays papers were detailing British Gas wasting £250,000 on a work knees up. Additionally both Centrica and British Gas have made obscene amounts of profit yet still feel the need to increase the cost of gas and electricity........well, time to make a stand me thinks. We should all boycott Centrica and British Gas and…

Comparison cost
Is there anywhere where I can see how much people living on the continent are paying for their gas & electricity? I'd like to know for example how much the Germans/Dutch/French are paying for their fuel and how does it compare to what we are paying here.

Electricity Token Meter - Get It Changed
If you still have a token meter, do yourselves a favour and contact your supplier to get it swapped for a modern meter, it does not anything. OFGEM wants suppliers to get them all removed as the tariff cannot be updated remotely so if they dont get access after a price rise you are building up debt. Suppliers are doing…

Changing name on account or changing supplier?
This might be a bit of an odd one, but i'm unsure the best way to proceed here. Currently the gas/elec supplier at home is Scottish Power and the account is in my fathers name. He and my mother divorced several years ago and i manage all the finances on behalf of my mum but have kept many of the original bills running as…

Switching suppliers whilst in rented house
I would like to cap my tariff as I'm currently with British Gas for both Gas and Electric (pre pay meter). Letting agent indicated when we moved in last year that it wouldn't be a problem to move suppliers or remove meter but we have never done it. My problem is that if I did cap or move then aren't you tied in a minimum…
