EDF 11 hour off peak tarif

Can anybody advise.
It appears I'm stuck with EDF as supplier of electricity as I've been told that other suppliers don't provide a similar scheme. As comparison sites don't recognize the scheme, I've not been able to assess wether I'm getting a good deal or not. As I understand the situation, I would have to get my 11 hour timer and relay changed to Economy 7 which would then allow me to get proper comparisons and swop suppliers if necessary.
I use approx. 2000 Kwh std rate and 350 off peak per annum. The off peak no longer powers the prime source of heating but It could if electic becomes significantly cheaper than gas.
Incidently I was once doorsteped by a salesman to swap gas and electric to SWALEC. and as electric was a much better deal I was persuaded. It was about 2 months later that they decided they couldn't do it and it took another 4 mounths to sort the mess out. Makes a nonsense out of the competitive market dosn't it.

When you have these more unusual products many companies won't take them on. I think Eon do offer a similar one but you won't get an option of any capped product. It could be worth considering changing to E7 but watch out because some companies do charge for a meter exchange

Looking at you useage I think that you may be better off on a 24/7 tariff as E7 tariffs are designed for properties with electric central heating (night storeage heaters). I would try looking at the comparison sites quoting 2350 kWh as your useage and see what you come out with, you may be suprised. You need to remember that on any form a E7 tariff you typically pay a penny of so more for a KwH during the day but save about 6 pence a KwH at night.

  • yes you would have to get a new meter as no other companies apart from EDF do this Tarrif. The benefits of the tariff you are on is that you get cheap rates at night 11.30pm to 7.30am and then again in the afternoon 2pm to 5pm so if you were purely on a normal economy 7 meter with another company you would not benefit from the cheap rate in the afternoon.
