Nightshift maximum hours
I work at a care home 3 nights a week. An old colleague has recently returned and is working 5 or 6 night shifts every week from 6pm-8am. She seems to be overtired all of the time and is not behaving in a professional manner. Another colleague has already spoken to the manager about this member of staff's behaviour, but…

Part time jobs for over fifties
I am looking for a part time job and I am in my fifties. Most of the part time jobs I look at, I just think it is a waste of time following up, as if I was an employer (and I once was), I would just not choose someone of my age over a younger person. There are certain jobs like shop work and bar work where opportunities…

Mileage Claims
Hi guys, hoping someone here will be able to here my colleagues and I. We all work within a community midwifery team and each month submit mileage claims. However, although we submit these to our line manager, who ensures us that she then gets them to her manager on time, they are not being paid. A colleague has spoken to…

JSA and National Insurance credits
Hi everyone, I'm new here and hoping to draw on other's experiences. I'm 55 and one of the early beneficiaries of Mr Cameron and Mr Clegg's brave new vision for the future - ie. after 34 years working in the public sector I'm now out of a job. Rather naively I dutifully went along to the Jobcentre and registered as…

working hours
Hi, In the emloyment contract working hours are stated as: 35 hours per week from 8am to 5pm (Mon-Fri) with 1 hour lunch break. But 8am to 5pm (Mon-Fri) with 1 hour lunch break makes 40 hours per week. So which one is correct 35 hours or 8am to 5pm? Do you think there is a mistake in the contract? Thanks in advance.

Returning to old job - would you go back?
Hi, A year ago I transferred to another job internally, for slightly better pay in a new more prestigious role. However I'm finding the work rather mundane and am considering leaving and returning back to my old department which I enjoyed doing. My previous manager has said he'd take me back after speaking to him a couple…

How should I explain this to employers?
I am leaving my current job as a community psych nurse working with children as I do not feel I am able to fulfil the requirements of the post. (I've posted about this in the benefits forum) I'm happy to do any job for a while but I'd really like to continue in care work and work in a nursing home or other ward as a…

How to find a job after being sacked.
My OH was sacked last week from an organisation he has worked for for 5+yrs. He will obviously have to start job hunting but how does he deal with the sacking as he will have no reference from his employer. Also should he sign on for conts based jsa right away (even though he is likely to get a sanction for being sacked)…
