Letters of Administration. Wrong Advice
I recently posted several questions relating to advice I was given by a Will writer who was going to handle letters of administration for me. Following the replies I had combined with gut instinct I terminated the services of this person. This person was to apply for L of A, suggested a 95-5 split of the only asset, the…

Lasting power of attorney
Has anyone successfully obtained this legal power on their own just by filling in the forms on the Justice website? My brother in law failed having paid the £130 fee and had to re-apply, paying another fee. I have just found a website offering to complete the forms over the phone and charging £59; anyone any experience of…

Winding up an Estate
Does an estate have to be entirely completed before any monies can be distributed to the beneficiaries. For instance if a person is left a set amount of money and that money is available, can that money be given out. Or does every thing else have to be completed, such as a property in the process of being sold.

Joint bank accounts with Mum - is probate necessary
A few years ago Mum had me added to her two bank accounts as joint account holder. She passed away yesterday after a short illness. How to setup a Will to reduce IHT for family over threshold?
We are married, currently with one young child. Our estate (mainly due to the rocketed value of our house over many years) will be over the IHT married joint limit of 650K. What is the best way of setting up our wills to ensure the survivor partner and child aren't hit with a tax bill? Would it be best to leave a…

Memorial Headstones - help, where do I start?
Hello all, I'm trying to organise a memorial headstone for my father's grave. I've figured its probably cheaper to skip the funeral director and deal directly with a stone mason. However there are so many things to consider e.g. type of stone, lettering, style etc. I have no idea where to start and even though I want…

Proof when dying intestate?
My elderly aunt received about £900 after a relative of her's died intestate. My aunt is convinced that the sum should be greater than this, based on the impression her relative gave when he was alive. Given how often the question arises I thought it would be useful to have a thread which provided useful resources on this subject, maybe it could become a sticky at some point?
