Dear all,
My grandmother was recently diagnosed with
Alzheimer's disease, but was still capable of living alone.
Recently she was taken ill and as a result of the illness, the symptoms
Of Alzheimer's have become increasingly prominent. So much so that it has come to a time where she must go into a care home. This would mean her having to sell her own house to pay for her time in the care home. The house is her one and only asset by right and is completely in her name. Would there be any possible way for her not to lose her house, to receive the care that she needs and so rightly deserves, given that she has worked and paid taxes all her life? Obviously i am clueless on these topics and am trying to help my very distressed family, so any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Think you have this post in the wrong Forum, as this is for posts relating to Deaths, Funerals and Probate.
However to answer your question, if her home is her only asset then yes it will have to be sold to pay the fees.0 -
Wait for an assessment for her, it totally depends on that as to whether care home fees will be paid from her estate or the council.
It is her money/estate after all. If it is needed to give her a better quality of life in her later years then surely you would want the best for her.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -

As she has the capital, although it's tied up in the house, she will be expected to pay for her own care. Read through the AgeUK site about paying for care and also the Alzheimer's Society site because she may be entitled to some free care but it's really difficult to get the LA/NHS to agree to it.0 -
