Hello all, I have ran into some trouble with the HMRC, I really need some quick advice but getting that from the HMRC seems pretty hard, if anyone on here could help me that would be great! Last year I wanted to start a business. I registered for self employed, I registered for VAT and I registered a business address at an…

I've not claimed from HMRC at all for the 8 years I've been working from home with my current employer. I'm lead to believe that I can claim back as far as the tax year that ended in 2012, however where do I find what the maximum I can claim per week without providing receipts and can anybody advice where and how I put…

I was TUPEd from my original employer of the last 12 years to the local council in April this year. They were undergoing a 'restructuring…

Claiming interest for HMRC refund delays
I can't find anywhere how, if at all, I can claim interest on a PAYE tax refund because HMRC took ages to process my request. Please can someone advise me? Firstly, let me make clear that I'm not having a go at HMRC. I want to cut them some slack as I recognise that they were good to me when I made an error several years…

How to tell if I am paying high rate tax?
My salary is over the threshold but then I buy childcare vouchers and make pension contributions which takes me to pretty near the boundary. Is there a definitive way to find out if my employer is deducting any tax at the high (40%) rate for me? Thanks

Class 2 National Insurance

The HRMC says this is not true and that Class 2 NI is payable for self-employed people whatever other contributions they make. I realize…

Self-employed or just pay the tax?
I retired some time ago as a self-employed professional photographer and am now a pensioner. After several years taking pictures for recreation, I started a YouTube channel reviewing equipment. This led to me writing e-books books on various cameras via Kindle. Over the course of three years or so, this has started to…

Capital Gains Tax on Shares
I have some shares in my own personal account. Now I would like to sell some this morning that will help to pay towards our house deposit. I know that CGT doesn't count for the first £11,100 profit but is there anyway around using my wife's allowance as well? Can I in effect sell £22,200 worth in profit and claim it was…
