Sky Q recording question

When I record some programmes on Sky Q box, it is only part recorded. I always set the time well before it starts. Some are fully recorded, which is fine.

Any ideas why some are only part recorded?

Thanks

  • Are you manually setting the recording time? If so, why?

When you say part recorded, how much is missing?

I go to the programme that want recorded, and press R button. Normally I do that in advance of 1 hour before.

When I set the record button 'R' in advance or manual for example from 1600 to 1630, it will record for this time but if the programme is running 5 mins late then it will miss the 5 mins.

    Any tips?

It is up to the channel to send automatic adjustments for recording.

Are you using some odd channel that does not do this?

That's what I thought. But it is only recording times, eg 1600 to 1630. If it starts few minutes early or finishes few minutes late then I haven't recorded start or finish.

One way to overcome this to record the programme that starts after too.

There's an option (on an HD+ box anyway) to add a few minutes at the start and finish of shows although this can cause an overlap. Shouldn't be a problem on a Q box though.

I don't even know if the Q box still has that (I'm on HD+).

    On the HD+ box it's under Services>Options>Sky+Setup

If you click on Sky+HD Boxes on the following link you'll see what it looks like for mine (top, right picture):- https://skyepginfo.co.uk/HowToGuides/System-Reset.php

Edit: in fact Sky have a better page here: https://www.sky.com/help/articles/recordings-missing-the-start-or-end

This is for HD+ boxes again, apparently Q boxes don't have this.
  • Perhaps its interfered as its recording it??
