4 hours free parking but 10 minutes over!

Got a ticket today issued 4 hours and 11 minutes after I drove into the carpark (UKPC). Parked right next to a sign that was not eye level but placed at the top of a pole. I only saw it after I got the ticket as getting two toddlers out of a car, strangely my focus is more about their safety than scanning the carpark for terms and conditions in tiny writing.

Aaaaanyhoo....it stated maximum stay 4 hours free parking, no pay and display option. So. Retail park + two toddlers does not make for a quick trip. Had I even envisaged staying longer than four hours there was no option to buy a ticket anyway. Feeding, changing nappies and looking for new furniture for my new house apparently takes 4 hours and 49 minutes :) They pezzled me after 4 hours 11 minutes.

So I've seen lots of advice about ignoring, and lots about appealing. Which do I do?? Seriously. I don't want to pay, and I don't want to risk them making an example of me and going to court.:(

They won't make an example of you as these idiots don't do court, and even if they did it would very easily be defended, going to the small claims doesn't instantly mean they'd win, they would have many things to overcome once a proper defence is submitted.

But that besides you have a few options

    1) pay the scammers
    2) appeal to the scammers, and if rejected go to popla
    3) ignore the scammers

Obviously first one shouldn't be done, otherwise why come here? Second is an option if in England or Wales only, if rejected go with our help to the independent appeals called popla. Or just ignore with very little chance of going to court, you just ignore templated letters.

As long as this wasn't in Scotland or NI where there is no POPLA appeal, and as long as this is your car not a hire/lease/company vehicle, I would recommend waiting for them to write the first letter (for lots of good reasons just wait!). Keep the envelope when they do send you the Notice to Keeper, if it shows they sent it on a later date that the date on the Notice (more sharp practice and worth including in your POPLA appeal).

Then use the appeal option and then win at POPLA with our help.

Is one baby so young that you're still feeding him/her yourself?! Sorry to ask such an up-front question but, if so, you're covered by the Equality Act 2010 and they'll have broken the law if they don't cancel once you tell them, once you get the Notice to Keeper.

Let us know when that arrives.

Unfortunately she stopped feeding at 13m, my friend got a ticket while sat in the car breast feeding her baby!! He actually stood and waited for her to pay. This was a few years ago though.

I get what you're saying about waiting. Will they actually send me a letter? How can they get my address??

I've just moved out, the Dvla doesn't have my new address yet anyway, but when I move into my new address they will. I'm hoping I might slip through their net!

That's a bit naïve and you need to tell the DVLA your new addy asap.

Risk a £1000 fine to not pay an invoice?

Change your details and just ignore as suggested.
