bed length

Hi
I am not sure if this is the best place to post so please forgive me if not.
I have a bedroom with a floor width of 204cm. The space from one wall to other is slightly wider as there are some pipes boxed in at floor level.
In this space I currently have a 2ft 6 standard length divan. I want to replace this with a 2ft 6 wooden bedframe which is 200cm long. However I am not sure that it will fit. I am guessing that there will not be enough clearance to turn the bed round if you see what I mean.
Is there any way of calculating what the maximum length is I can fit in the space?

    When you turn the bed round, lift one end, it will then be diagonal and should turn within the space available. Or, lift it up until vertical - Your ceiling is more than 200cm high, Yes ? - then spin the bed round and put it down where you want it.

    if you are putting in a new wooden frame, then surely you can just put it together in the right place facing the right way?
    you won't be lifting it in once piece will you, take a long side into the room and then you can make sure it fits before building the rest too

    Hi

    Thanks for the replies. I think it may have been a stupid question but I was worried about buying a bed that I then wouldn't be able to erect in the space.

    the_r_sole - yes it will pretty much stay where it is but I may need to move it sometimes and I didnt want to have to take it apart to move it.

    mart.vader - I had thought of that but am too spatially challenged to figure whether it would actually work! The current divan is 190cm and I can move that around ok.

    Yes, you use Pythagoras' Theorem.

    You can calculate the diagonal of the bed across any face. The diagonal must be less than the width in which you hope to turn the bed about an axis perpendicular to that face.

    For example, you have the bed stood on its head and you wish to rotate it to stand normally in the intended space. The diagonal across the side of the bed must be less than 2.04m for you to do the rotation successfully.

    h^2 + l^2 = d^2

    where
    h = height
    l = length
    d = diagonal

    h^2 = d^2 - l^2

    h^2 = (2.04)^2 - (2.0)^2

    h^2 = 0.161

    h = 0.4

    So you could do it if the height of the bed is less than 0.4m

    Checking the calcs, allowing for non straight walls and limitation of damage to decoration are all your responsibility of course.

    Hi ValHaller

    That was exactly what I wanted however I think that proves it cannot be done.

    Bed dimensions are
    width 87cm
    length 200cm (although some sites say 201cm)
    height 50cm low end/ 99cm headboard end.

    I think that then means I am limited to a divan methinks :-(

    Then back in the real world I would simply pick up the bed, nod to Pythagoras and swing it round or not, darn site quicker than trying to calculate it.
    I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

    Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

    Well that would be the easiest if I already had the bed. However I didnt want to purchase a bed only to find it didnt fit and then go through the process of sending it back again.

    Well, pay attention, that boy at the back.
    Order bed
    Take delivery
    Assemble
    Attempt to swing in the space
    Fail
    Disassemble
    Arrange return
    Await collection
    I would calculate every time there is the least doubt. Minute to collect the data. 30 seconds to calculate. Paying attention in maths at school has always served me well.

    I doubt he bed will come ready assembled. Iwould hazzard a guess it will be seperate head and foot, 2 side pieces and slats. In that case, as has been previously mentioned just assemble it in situ. In the rare event you need to move it, it is likely to be only 4 bolts (one on each corner), so would only take a few minutes to disassemble and move, then put back and re assemble.

    Hi Olias

    Yes it is flatpack. I am just doubting whether I will have enough room to assemble in situ given I have only 4cm of spare space (or possibly 3cm depending on what dimensions on what site I believe)

    this is the bed
