Default Shiny New Year, Shiny New Start. The January NSD Challenge

Welcome to the January No Spend Day (NSD) thread!!

We are a happy (and some might say mildly insane) bunch doing battle with those retailers - and there’s plenty of temptation out there at the moment. We are seriously committed to saving money, but nobody said it can't be done with a smile on your face - so we organise riotous nights out and gatecrash any function going - all without leaving the comfort of our own imaginations or armchairs!

On a slightly more serious note, we are here to help each other avoid spending for the number of days we feel we can manage to try to take back some control over our hard-earned money. What you class as a "spend'" is entirely your choice; some people will try to shop on the days DD/SO etc are paid, whilst others will not include essentials such as rent. Have a look for a post from our sponsor (and godmother of this challenge) BigMummaF, this contains some guidelines and ideas for starting you off on the challenge.

It’s amazing how inventive you get when you’re determined NOT to spend - from weird menu ingredients to surprising DIY solutions - but you know what? 99% of the time those wacky ideas work.

Link to last month's challenge is below so any newcomers can see what we get up to (hmmmmm... on second thoughts, that might put you off...)

Morning Freeby,
Time for me to put Christmas aside and get back onto the nsd wagon in the new year. I've been a bit on and off with this challenge, and when I'm good, I'm very good.
However I'm not back at work until 7 Jan so I think that a realistic January target for me is 15 nsds please.
Sorry I'm so sporadic on this thread, but it really does help me when I get into it properly.
May the force be with you challenge - contender #2

I'm going to give this a go this year. Those 'it's just a couple of quid' spends soon add up and my credit card has taken a thrashing lately. I work Mon-Fri, and Mon-Thurs are pretty easy NSDs if I can be organised about taking a packed lunch. Fri we go to the pub or coffee shop for a quick drink to start the weekend. I'm not prepared to sacrifice that, but I am going to start making smarter choices (why pay the same as a pint for a shandy when could get a pint of squash for 50p and save the calories too?)

I'm going to aim for 16 NSDs and see if I can build from there.

Hi can you put me done for20 days please. All my direct debits come out on the same day,I don't take my purse out to work as nothing to spend on and no shops near by that leaves five shopping days for food and a few just in case days.

I'm going to aim back to the dizzy heights of 10NSDs for January and hopefully exceed it. I know it's not a huge amount but I'm taking on a couple of New Year resolutions (and booking a long awaited holiday) so I know I may need to spend on a few days.

Hiya

I need to get back on and do this again next year. I did so well the first half of last year, then depression crept in and I lost it after a while.

Could you please start me off with 10 NSD's / 3 in a row

Thank you

Hi - I have not done this before but would it be possible to join in?

I dont have any debts at the moment but am on a reduced income so would like to have something to aim for and hopefully keep it that way.

I will be optimistic and go for 16 NSDs

Thanks

I used to do this ages ago and then fell off the wagon - but I'm back!

I'm not working until Jan 7th (teacher) and don't have a lot of plans between now and then so I'll have to work hard not to fritter money away.

I think I'll go for 10 NSDs in January and try to do 2 for the end of December

Thank you to all that keep the thread going.
