Ok, so I know it should be motivation enough to clear your debts knowing you will be debt free at the end of it. However to give myself an extra motivational boost I have decided that to celebrate by debt free status (May 2014 at the latest!) I am going to treat myself to a new car... in a MSE way obvisouly by saving for it first!

What will you treat yourself to when you become debt free?

xx

I desperately need a new bathroom and have done for the last 20 years so when I've paid off my dmp and save the money that I was paying into my dmp (600pm), then in no time at all I will have enough money. Also need a new kitchen but that can wait for a while...

I'm actually most excited to be able to start saving. I know that sounds sad, but I do want to get a healthy little ISA going.

    Eventually. lol.

New car for me, not a brand new one but one thats about 6months to a year old, can't wait.
Also want to replace sofa, bathroom suite and a few other things around the house.

Can't wait for the day that I can do all this :D

  • The sensible bit of me will start saving towards a house deposit... one extra month after I'm debt free.
For that month I will allow my frivilous side to the fore :D I'm going to splash out on a new dress and high heels.
When I had my LBM I bought myself a gorgeous dress from coast. It cost £150 and was way more than I should have spent but the deal I made myself was that it was a classic LBD that I looked great in and I would wear it for everything and not buy any more dresses until I was debt free. Something I have stuck to.
Of course, once I have money I won't be able to find anything I like :)

2 days after my debt free date we went on holiday to Chicago, our first holiday as a couple and my first trip in 4 long years. The thought of the trip kept me going through the last 6 months. I do think it's important to have something real to focus on.

Agree about having something to focus on and my focus is when I'm debt free and paid for my bathroom, I'll be able to work part time and have a bit of a life instead of working all the time. I'll be mortgage free in 2013 too so, this time next year hopefully I'll be debt free, mortgage free and having a bit of a life and still young and healthy enough to enjoy it.

    Good luck to everyone.

You can live whilst being in debt but it seriously restricts your experiences. I am going to renew my passport and go inter-railing around Europe.
    Debt-Free day 30th September 2014
  • after we became df we went on holiday to Morocco for 10 days - all paid for in advance, we also bought a new mattress, other than that we continued to be frugal Its now nearly 2 years since we cleared our debt and have just had a 2 week holiday in Thailand and are now saving hard and have various ideas about what we are saving for. We still are frugal but don't worry about going out for a meal or a drink when we fancy it. Saving feels good, but life is for living
