Rose, you seem to have missed one of the most important points in your article. You can't get Sky HD through BT.

I cancelled Sky a couple of months ago and am now dithering about whether to go with BT or Sky. I have phone and bb with BT as sky can't do it in my area cheaply yet. So decisions decisions and I am not bothered about HD

  • I have always been with Bt as I found that I got best deal from them. Now living in Scotanld with family in Ireland I have free calls to home n e time with option 3. However we were paying £18 per month for BB (for 18 mths) and I seen that we could get it for £7.25 from somewhere (cant rem where) I rang BT and they dropped my price to £7.24 and also gave use 3 mths free. We love r football but I hate Sky charges and all of the tv we just want sports which u cant do on Sky but can do on BT. I enquired from BT yesterday and I would need to buy box at cost of £90 and then Bt would charge me £17 per month for JUST SPORTS. Sky unable to do this !!!!!!!!!!!!! We have freeview for all else.

Bt Vision is terrible, stear clear. The content on the server is very outdated and full of bugs, you need a good connection for it to work and i found bt broadband went fast and slow constantly(moved from a constant connection with orange). Technically my own fault for not knowing the content was rubbish, not current, and HD free, I ended up paying £15pm + £25pm(broadband) = £40 for a freeview recording box!!

What i want to know or would like people to bear aware of before they commit, is How the content is delivered? Is it streamed through the internet connection? Therefore are the games delayed? Or whats the deal? Is sky player via xbox a better option?

Ok, I don't particularly like this article, as it's implying and assuming things that aren't really valid.

If you pay for Sports, then know what Sports you want to watch and what channels they are shown on.

BT DO NOT have all Sky Sports channels

BT DO NOT offer an HD service.

BT DOES require you to use a BT Vision box which requires an internet connection through a BT Homehub.

So, if you are looking to pay out a sizeable sum of cash per month, are you willing to save a couple of quid going with BT to have.

    - No HD, not all the sports (anyone in Scotland will not get any of Sky's SPL offering from Sky Sports 3), your viewing now reliant on a working net connection.

Are you someone who doesn't normally take sports and fancies give it a go, maybe BT is for you, if you are serious about Sports, give BT a miss.

*** Indeed, the graphic IMO does not make it clear enough that BT are not able to offer all Sky Sports channels. That's not money saving, that's just paying less, for less.

Yep, you have to consider you need BT Broadband to be able to take out BT Vision - and BT's broadband packages are very uncompetitive and carry long term contracts. We realised this when we were paying £25 a month for unlimited usage with them and O2 told us they could provide the same package for just £10 a month.

So remember to take into account the overall cost before locking into any contract, because it can be cheaper with other providers when the cost is totalled up.

I've been with BT for some time and quite happy with Freeview and BT Vision (but didn't sign up for any packages). V-box very good for recording two programmes at once while watching a third (if necessary) via TV tuner.

Recently renegotiated BB and calls at about £8/mth saving so was curious about this Sky Sports offer, but couldn't find the price to add only these 2 x Sky Sports channels apart from all the "from £6.99" guff.

Via phone, was quoted £11.99 for both but had to upgrade BB from Option 1 to Option 2 (higher limits, but don't need them!) for £2 - but I was happy to give it a go - especially as Sky has only one month contract period.

Goodbye World Cup (soon) and welcome to the Premiership prima donnas! :)
  • I just wanted some clarification about using BT to view sky sports. I have noticed that there are two new channels on freeview (41 and 42 I think) that are BT for Sky Sports 1 and Sky Sports 2. Is this the same as subscribing to ESPN on freeview or are there some other things that you need to pay for?

timemurray, I think you'll find that you'll have to pay extra for ESPN. It's been a subscription channell for some time and unless there have been some chnages, ESPN will get some live Premiership matches on an exclusive basis. This is what I believe, so it may need to be checked.
