Aerated Showers? (merged)

Options
Does anyone know anything about aerated showers?

There was an "environmentally friendly" house on BBC Breakfast this morning and they mentioned them, but I want to know how they work, if they save much water, how much they cost etc.

Just Yahoo'd it - they seem to be used mainly for emergency showers, although there are a couple of bathroom suppliers on the first page as well.

It seems that the aerated showers deliver water that's 'softer to the touch', although I can't quite work out how it's more environmentally-friendly.

Would be interested to hear more if anybody else knows.

I have a feeling it may be because of the way it pushes air out too, less water is used, and so that's why it's environmentally friendly. Maybe? Clutching at straws?

Yeah, apparently it mixes the water with air so it feeld like a power shower but using half the water or something like that?!?!

Sounds interesting. I have found this shower head for £18. They also have "bits" that go on the end of the taps for a fiver.
    Aerators
A simple and inexpensive way to reduce water consumption in the bathroom. Tap aerators with integrated flow regulators reduce the flow rate by 50 % and more, e.g. from 15 l/min to 6 l/min. Most of our aerators come available in various flow patterns, but there are two separating features- the form in which they actually deliver the water. LAMINAR aerators deliver a crystal clear stream, whilst the spray delivers a good constant pattern spray as opposed to the classic AERATED water that feels soft and looks like champagne.

It sounds like the new tap they have installed in one of the sinks in the ladies loos at work. We all queue up to use that one. :D It feels really nice.

Years ago I saw something on TV about an environmentally friendly public toilet and they had aerated water in the taps. I think the idea is to save water. Better than those public toilets where the water shoots out so fast it goes everywhere. Maybe they shoudl have a rule about it.

    Hi

I saw something about this a while back but couldn't find one that would just fit onto a shower hose rather than onto a backplate or wall.

Anyway, I noticed this water saving kit had one in it. I called Aqualogic and they do sell them separately. The chrome one (product code AQS815C) is £20 and the white one (AQS815W) is £15. The standard delivery is £7.50, but they will send this by post for £3.50. Also, they said plumbers merchants could probably order this in for you, but would be unlikely to have it in stock. I couldn't find this to order online, so you would have to call them to order direct.

I had a look at some aerating showers trying to figure out how they work. this company ahve been making them for years(like 20 or more) and get 2 big thumbs up from me. they explain on there website how it works and the resulting shower is great. mine shower is on a hose but they have one lots of differnt types, even ones which you can put on your taps. check out www.low-e.co.uk

I would treat this post with caution. I have just put a post on another thread regarding a first time poster praising a product.
A quick Google revealed that someone with the same surname (yes - he used his real {not common} surname !) works for the company he was praising.

I believe this practice is called a 'Shill' and can be illegal.
    Shills on the Internet
In online discussion media, satisfied consumers, or “innocent” parties may express specific opinions in order to further the interests of an organization in which they have an interest, such as a commercial vendor or special-interest group. Websites may also be set up for the same purpose. For example, an employee of a company that produces a specific product may praise the product anonymously in a discussion forum or group in order to generate interest in that product, service, or group.
In some jurisdictions and circumstances, this type of activity may be illegal. In addition, reputable organizations may prohibit their employees and other interested parties (contractors, agents, etc.) from participating in public forums or discussion groups in which a conflict of interest might arise, or will at least insist that their employees and agents refrain from participating in any way that might create a conflict of interest.

I would love to see these people taken to court.
