M&S food shopping xmas eve bargains

I have posted this elsewhere but no replies so think it should be here but don't know how to move it but anyway.... has anyone been to the xmas eve food shopping in M&S is it worth the queing? Are there any real bargains to be had? Is there anything left?
Went to Waitrose on xmas eve late and got a £65 turkey breast with stuffing for £8 and veg for pennies so it was worth the scrummage:D sainsburys is o.k but not massive reductions, Asda is not worth it, Tesco had all their turkeys reduced in the morning so have done that but never M&S anyone know if it worth it? What is the best time? thank you:D

Already thinking about Xmas eve? - bit early no?

Going to any place on that date will be a matter of luck - sometimes you will find somewhere that bought too much, and hence get bargains, where as other times they will have sold out or sell to staff instead

Seriously?!! That's a bit harsh isn't it? Do they just sell their under-achievers, or is there a bidding system? Is it like footie clubs selling their players?

    LOL!

  • You have to be in M&S at opening time as it's like a jumble sale to get anything worthwhile and by late afternoon NOTHING is left !!

I work for M&S and was working until closing last xmas eve. I can honestly say that our store was blitzed and the only thing we had to reduce was brussell sprouts. We could easily have sold another 50 turkeys if we had had the stock.

Have to say we bought an M&S turkey crown last year and we were really disappointed - the meat just tasted odd and had a weird rubbery texture (and yes I cooked it properly lol). We didn't bother complaining but we won't bother with turkey from there again - personally I'd rather get something I knew would be good rather suffer M&S on Christmas Eve because I 'might' get something cheap. Now that I've lived where I do a bit longer I know a fantastic butcher, so I'm happy to pay a higher price for something I know will be good.
  • I've seen reductions but I've seen nothing left or very little far more often. I think it is mainly people going to get the freshest available rather than buying in the days before.

If I was in Waitrose and saw a £65 turkey which was worth more than £8 I'd buy it and maybe bang it in the freezer if I didn't want to cook it.
