Local Parking Security Fine - What to do?

Hi
I wish I had found this forum sooner but looking for advice please.
On Friday I parked in the car park of a Premier Inn/Beefeater. The main car park is Pay & Display and claim your money back but we parked in an area that was previously free. On returning after lunch I had an Excess Charge Notice as I parked without a valid ticket - I then noticed the new P&D sign on the exit.
As the charge would be £30 is paid within seven days I sent the cheque yesterday to the company, I also filled out the section requesting my name & address - mistake I guess from reading other threads.
Anyway what should I do?
a) cancel cheque and the ignore them?
or
b) let them cash cheque and then appeal against charge as my friend is sending me a copy of the lunch bill that will prove we were using the facilities at the time of the notice and also the signage was inadequate.
Am decidedly peeved as you can imagine and don't want to pay but I don't want to end up with "additional admin fees as stated on the Notice.
many thanks for your time and any advice in advance.

Does your bank charge to cancel a cheque? If not, cancel it. Even if they do, it may not be as much as £30 so may still be worth it, but you may want to wait for someone more knowledgeable to advise about that.
The reclaim process involves threatening (and carrying through if necessary) court action against the land owner and the PPC jointly.
You could also approach the restaurant as if they're the landowner they'll have a contract with the PPC.
P.S: You mention 'additional admin fees as stated on the Notice' - like the notice itself it's not enforceable. They could charge you a fee for wearing high heels, that's how legitimate these cowboys are.0 -
Thanks Crabman, £7.50 to cancel cheque but better than £30 .
Now I guess I have to steel myself for the threatening letters!0 -

I know that now but as I said found this thread too late, hindsight is 20/20!
They would have got my details from DVLA for £2.50 - the cheque - well, what can they do ?0 -
the cheque - well, what can they do ?
Well maybe we’ll see you on the next series of Bailiffs. I for one will be wetting myself when all your worldly possessions are being removed for the sake of £30-00.:rotfl:Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature.
