That's a great approach and attitude to it Pollyanna. It's such a hard transition but I know less time at work, I'm part time/flexible now, has helped me live a better quality of life. I still resent it though and need to get my head around so called "missed opportunities" because of it. I've not adjusted to the new set up mentally or emotionally yet.

It gives me strength reading everyone's journey here, knowing that there's still life to be lived happily, especially in the old style way - maybe more so since we are not as tied to money and consumerism.

Mind, gardening and growing some of your own food sounds a million miles better than dragging along in some job that makes your health worse.

Sorry to hear this caronc. Was part time not on the table for discussion?
Unfortunately I'm not regarded as being fit for even this at the moment by GP, Specialist or OH. (Much as it pains me they are right) I had hoped they might continue to support my absence until I was but at the moment no one will commit if/when that might be but certainly probably not this year:( The b@gger is because there are still some treatment options that could be considered the application will most likely fail but it's worth a punt as it's the best option financially!
Caronc I'm pleased the form is dealt with . I think re work it is really hard to come to terms with sometimes . To be honest I had to leave to start home educating my daughter in 2nd year senior school , my own health was beginning to cause me some struggles work wise but I would have probably managed a couple of years more . At first I missed my friends at work and the daily routine but looking back I was pushing myself back then and may have had to leave anyway .
When the gardener has your garden manageable you should be able to potter without the hard work and find ways to enjoy your new life .
If it fits the budget I would advise a non-turn mattress . I cringe when I read of people lifting and turning mattresses on their own .
    I'm still catching up !!!
Is the mse clock still an hour behind ? I've been offline for the past few days and either no one is posting on mse or the clock is out .
    polly x
Thanks - I've never heard of a no-turn mattress. Tbh it could easily have waited until my son was home but I wanted it done........

carnoc that's so tough on you when you are already going through enough with illness. Workplaces are losing out on skilled, experienced people with this attidude. They could give a bit longer to allow people to try different treatments and recover. Or have some other way people could return with shorter hours.

Sorry caronc I'll get off my soap box. I just know that working in the public sector isn't for everyone but those who do work for them tend to be dedicated talented people. It's a loss all round.

Did you go at the matress turnaround with gusto and vengeance? I quite like a wee fight with inanimate household objects myself :o this includes putting up and down ironing boards..damn those things

Yep public sector with regard to supporting people recover isn't as supportive as some of the media might suggest

The public sector is tough these days, very tough...it's become merciless and not in a good "commercial sound profit making" way. Oops, sorry, I won't get started!

I can imagine you fighting this massive mattress intent on winning and you did! Go you girl. I'd have given up and slept on the floor :rotfl: like I do with the ironing board. As in I go @ugger that and walk away with it lying on the floor, iron unplugged as I rake through my wardrobe for something else to wear. Hate ironing.

Have you mastered a good new duvet cover technique? I've stitched buttons and loops on mine..as I was fighting that too :o

Where there is a mind, there is a way ;)

The House Troll is a bit sore LW :-( We have a doctor's appointment on the 10th of April to discuss his joint pain. He says that he's had it so long it's just part of him but I feel that the whole thing needs looking at now rather than me spooning junior nurofen into him at regular intervals. He went out with friends for a couple of hours on Sunday then when he came home looked sadly at his legs and feet and said "walking is over rated, why can't I just float?"
I am totally with him on that one! Come on, you scientists out there, get your thinking caps on, we want floating technology, pretty please! :D
LW I renewed dds annual ppc on the phone last Friday . I've been buying it for years . The amount of meds she's on would be beyond affordable otherwise . The new card arrived yesterday by post .
It was good to see the cost is frozen again at £104.00 as prescription charges increase again in April . I've meant to mention the ppc on this thread for those who might find it helpful so thanks for mentioning it .
I expect doggy countdown is underway again .
    I'm glad I mentioned ppc, then. :o
Yep, counting down the hours til 14:00 on Monday. :D

You'd have laughed at me battling with the new mower the other day then; it came as a sort of semi-flat-pack, and the grass box had to be assembled, as did the handle. Mr LW did the handle. Mr LW also got the best end of the deal. However, the grass box did not defeat me; the air was a bright shade of blue, but I got the blighter assembled. ;)
Mattresses and duvets are 100% Mr LW's department. ;)

Uh, oh - I hear the music for "Dragon Age Inquisition" coming from the pc; that's my cue to go and bash a few monsters, then.
If your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)

This Dragon Age thing interests me LW, what is it all about? :)

Your new mower sounds like my worst nightmare. Anything in big boxes, semi build freaks me out! Oddly I'm fine with ikea furniture and can make up things like bed frames...still  Anything fiddly that needs hand dexterity and strength overwhelms me now. I've got strength in body and with weight I can be some force  but not in my hands / arms. We are lucky to have the hubbies aren't we ;)

Womanly hips are great tools for bashing and forcing things into place. Not quite a delicate touch, but am I glad of alternatives :T bless the female shape :p

LW Another here who would welcome floating technology but with my track record with even a laptop maybe not . I am finding it really heavy going typing at the moment but as the weather improves the hands and wrists should be a lot better .
Karcher Way back near the start of the thread a poster gave a brilliant method of dealing with duvet covers which many of us found brilliant . Sadly my memory can't bring her name to mind but maybe someone here may recall it . It's in amongst all the tips that flooded in before the cold weather and dreary days slowed us down .
Caronc I discovered no turn mattresses back in 2012 , I was unsure as we were all raised on the turning the mattress routine . There are many more on sale now and I honestly would never go back to the old way , the ones here are fine and I think we'll get a lot more wear out of them .

Cranky I hope all goes well taking the Troll to the doctors . It will be so hard for you both .
I was reading about the condition quite by chance a few days ago and hadn't realised just how devastating it can be . I'm sending strength to you and virtual painless hugs to you both .

Prinzess I hope all is well with yourself and your dear Mum .

The hospital visit last week brought a diagnosis of Calcific Tendonitis in dds shoulders . The doctor was lovely but he really had to hurt her but constantly reassured her he was supporting her arms as she tried to raise them and wouldn't let them go .
We are so blessed to meet so many good health professionals and I wear my save the nhs badge with pride .
Now awaiting an appointment for US guided Barbotage which will hopefully smash and disperse the calcium buildup which is causing the pain . She has been warned it will be painful and normally has a high tolerance to pain but the examination tested her so we'll see how this goes .
If anyone here has experience of this procedure I would appreciate your input . I have a feeling WCS may have some knowledge but she hasn't posted for a while and I suspect work and the weather may be enough for her to cope with at the moment .
I've been meaning to ask Curly Top how she is so if you are reading it would be nice to hear from you .
    Wishing all a peaceful night
    polly x
