a nice free program that does similar the the bat file is PingInfoView from http://www.nirsoft.net..

As I mentioned earlier, check those nic driver verions and get the latest from the manufacturer.

it could also be a bad phone line.

It's been some time since you gave me this programme to run. Over this month I've had the computer on continuously, and not deliberately disconnected so I've just posted these results. Yesterday had the most disconnections since the 4th March. The longest I've ever gone without a disconnection is around 3 days.

Would a LAN up, ADSL down be sufficient proof that it is a BT problem (something upstream of my router connection)

ISP time. Hope you do not have a long wait.

They will probably do a line test. too. When something like this happened to me it was a bad line connection in the box and the terminals were loose. the swing swinging the cables cause the disconnects.

I've shaken the box, it doesn't make any difference. It's the guys fiddling about in the substation I wonder about!

I assume you've checked the cabling and the ADSL filter/etc?

My connection was playing up a week or so back, turned out my GF had been messing with the wiring around the TV and had pushed the ADSL filter up against a power supply adaptor for a TV box, I swapped the filter and moved it away from that PSU and no more issues. Either the filter was faulty or it was picking up interference from the PSU it was next to.

It's worth as well checking the phone line as soon as your BB drops out, just dial 1471 and see if you get a clear sounding line.

The real test is to remove the backplate on the BT master socket and connect the modem/router directly without any extension lines or phones connected.

Regarding the script your using, it's similar to one I did some years ago, for shutting down Torrenting programs if my connection dropped (which kills my VPN).

It's got a slight flaw in that the router will sometimes ping back on behalf of the external site your trying to ping out to, meaning it'll return a non-error state and the script will assume there is no issue.

My later script is designed to be called from other scripts so it would do no good to post here, but the primary difference is:
    ping -n 1 -w 200 %hostname%|Findstr /I /C:"timed out" /C:"unreachable" /C:"could not find host"

and the errorlevel check would be

    if %errorlevel% neq 1 (
    connect error commands here
    )

It looks for all the possible words that would suggest a connection error and can't be fooled by limitations of ping.exe

Off topic, but you torrent client should have a feature in it where you only connect to the vpn interface. Both Qbittorrent and Utorrent have this. On qbittorrent look under Tools, Options, Advanced, Network interface = "any device" is the default but you should select vpn inteface

I have uTorrent and I don't see that option. Only the option to set up a proxy.

Now I do have uTorrent 3.3.1, but I haven't updated since I heard the later versions had been laced with adware/malware and bitcoin miners.

I used Utorrent about 3-4 years ago and it was there, but cant remember the version, but failrly sure after 3/4 years it was under advanced?? I moved to qbittorrent and was happy :)

possibly this, but at the time it was only one box - net bind ip?
    ?u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ibvpn.com%2Fbilling%2Fimages%2Futorrent%2Fibvpn_utorrent3.png&f=1

Google found me this for net.bind_ip and it seems to be the originating page of the pic above.
