Possible Rising Damp in my bungalow ?

I have had a decorator round to my bungalow.

He has advised me that I may have possible rising damp in my main bedroom.

In the bottom corner of the room, the wall paper is peeling off from the wall. He has given me a number of a damp specialist, who I have already phoned. They are coming round on Wednesday week. The wall paper behind my bed is also peeling off. They will charge me £40 to have a look and produce a report.

I have stains on my walls and on the ceiling. It is north-facing,I get a lot of condensation in the room (I have a dehumidifier in my place). All my other rooms are fine.

Can anyone please give me advice.

It is most likely condensation rather than rising damp. Is this 'specialist' from a firm who supply damp proofing treatment?

I bet it’s condensation too if it’s a North facing room, especially if it is behind items of furniture that don’t move.

Are the walls insulated? Do you keep the room nice and warm? What ventilation do you have?

I doubt very much that you need a ‘damp specialist’. They’ll charge you £40 to SELL you damp proofing.

    Post pictures if you like.

Then I would be very suspicious of any repair they recommend other than heating, ventilation and insulation.

Yes there is furniture in front of wall.

    Wall is insulated.

    Warmth......Probably room is lukewarm.

Ventilation......I have had window vents installed in my french doors a few months ago. Before my french windows, I had a big double window. It would let air blow in (NOTE : I could see the curtains blowing during the day), Since doors, it seems very very air tight.

I may post pictures. For info, the wall-paper that is coming away from wall, there is a black stain on the wall. It could be mould.

    Thanks for your help.

I would take no notice at all of the above...........
I presume that you have checked to make sure that your gutters are not blocked, there are no missing/slipped roofing tiles & any lead flashing looks OK ??

For info, I have a gutter next to my back wall, where the paper is peeling off, that is blocked. Does this make a difference ? The gutter is not part of the main gutting. It just connects small part of my back roof (less that 5 ft in length). How can I fix the blockage ?

The tiling looks fines as does the lead.

If the gutter is blocked that could be the cause of your problem.
How to fix the blocked gutter ????
Get somebody to clean it out for you.....
Slip the window cleaner a fiver ??
Its going to be cheaper than paying the 'Damp Specialist'.
Who will almost certainly find 'rising damp'& want to take plenty of ££££ off you.
