    Saving for Xmas 2017 - A pound a day

    Saving for Xmas 2017 - A pound a day 26th Nov 16 at 8:13 AM
This is the saving for Christmas 2017 - A pound a day challenge

    Back by popular demand

The Aim: To save a £1 a day from 1st December 2016 to 30th November 2017. How you save your £1 doesn't really matter, whether it be a £1 in a tin, an on-line account or anywhere else that suits you.

We will open our tins or have access to our accounts on 1st December 2017 and declare out total amounts saved

Then it's spend, spend, spend for Xmas 2017 on whatever you like.

I've had great success for the last 3 years and use a sealed tin. For 2016 I saved £2 each day instead of £1 and this really does take a lot of the stress out of Christmas, also, I have a great time counting out all my £1 coins at the end.

You soon get into the habit of putting a £1 a day away and just think this time next year you will have a healthy chunk of money towards the expense of Christmas

If you would like to join in pop your name down and I will allocate a number for you.

So come on everyone, decide on where you are going to keep your pounds and let's get saving!

£5 added to the pot to even it up,

I have my christmas basket ready, I will press go next week, and wait for it all to arrive and then a mass wrapping session.

I will not be adding anymore the pot so finishing on £400.

I will wait to find out if Saving for Xmas 2018 is going to run.

    Morning all!

I emptied my pot yesterday as I finally concluded my Xmas list and had all of my shopping ready to purchase. Amazingly we had £627 in total in there!! Therefore I also had some left over to pay off another debt so all is good

Thank you to everyone on here who has inspired and got us to where we currently are.

So looking forward to joining the 2018 thread now - I may even start saving early!

A bit more to add and have now hit 90% with 2 weeks to go. Still waiting on a couple of tcb's and Boots points from a large purchase so may get closer to target. Last year I spent £550 in total so I'm sure I already have enough and am relaxed about it

Completely lost track of this after buying some presents. Hope to do better next year.

Main problem at the moment is what to actually buy for the people remaining!

    Hello everyone,

We're almost there and haven't we all done well?

Some fantastic amounts saved over the year.

I have had a lot of family issues over the last 12 months which means I have been working and trying to juggle elderly parents so haven't been on here as much as I should but...

I am happy to set up this challenge again for 2018 as long as you accept there will be times when I go AWOL for a while but I'm sure you can all carry on without me in those times and I will always pop by whenever I can to update the totals on page 1.

It would be a shame to abandon this challenge now and I am so used, as I'm sure you are too, at putting my ££'s away so let's keep going

All totals updated where requested and I will set up a new page for 2018 in the coming days.

Well done to each and everyone of us. I've not cracked open my tins just yet but will do so over the next week or so.

    Take care

    Hello everyone,

I've had an enjoyable hour or so counting my £££'s and I'm quite happy with the £740 I've saved this year.

I've already bought the majority of my presents so most of this money will be tucked away and the remainder will help towards groceries etc. over the festive period.

I hope you have all enjoyed this challenge and have found that saving little and often has really helped towards the cost of Christmas.

We've all done amazingly well, here's to the next one...keep an eye out for the new thread coming shortly for 2018
