There have been ongoing problems with Wirecard, who run the underlying payment system, for months. Several other pre-paid cards reliant on Wirecard have also had issues.

what do they and revout and the like expect when they have a bargain basement back end processor?

it's been the same for months and it's about time MSE stops pushing them, because they aren't a replacement for a normal bank card.

I can only presume someone at MSE towers is getting the commission so don't want to stop plugging them.

To be fair to Monzo, the recent outages have only been on their prepaid card, which uses WireCard. For their current account, they've built their own infrastructure which seems much more solid so far.

They've always said 'have a backup card with you', as they're in beta testing. And that's the point of beta testing - trying things out with the understanding sometimes things will go wrong and need to be fixed.

Would agree MSE's coverage hasn't been ideal though. Pushing it as a FX fee-free card (when it's actually a beta test of a UK based current account trying out fee-free FX) hasn't set the fairest expectation.

    BETA TEST.

this was always a BETA TEST for a current account. The fact that people are using it as a travel card, and not realising it is a BETA TEST, is their own fault.
  • I've just returned from America & whilst I had some issues with my Monzo card not working (normally related to when there were issues with Wirecard) at least I was informed. My friend was using a Caxton prepaid card & that sometimes didn't work but he never had the option to check whether or not there was an internal error, problem with cashier or that he just had insufficient funds!
