Florida Tolls

Options
We are off to Flordia in a couple of weeks and can't work out if it is cheaper to pay for the road tolls as we pass them or if there is a cheaper pass we could buy before we arrive.

Can anyone help us? or at least point us in the right direction.

It's likely you'll end up with automated tolls linked to the hire car and get charged a week or so after you return the vehicle.

It depends on how many times you will be travelling on the toll roads. A lot of the roads around the Disney area aren't toll.
Most hire cars come with a toll reader in the car. Usually if you use the reader there is a blanket amount per week over which you don't pay ( you would need to ask though ) also a small charge for the days you use it.
We find it easier than making sure you have change and having to call at the toll booths. The charge goes on a credit card.
    I hope this helps.

If you pay the tolls in cash it's cheaper, how much depends on the hire company. Whether it's worth the hassle of stopping every couple of miles to save a few dollars is up to you.

Just keep change and pay in cash unless you use a toll road very regularly.

It depends on where you're going and how much long distance driving you're planning to do.

The majority of roads, once you're away from the airport, are not toll roads, so if you're staying in the same area you're only likely to use toll roads on the first and last days of your holiday. Most hire cars have a tag for the tolls but charge around $3 per day you actually use it plus the toll charge.

We just pay as we go through them, because a lot of the tourist attractions aren't near the toll roads. If you are driving from Orlando international airport to your resort have some change ready in the car.

We pay in cash too, it's no hassle, it's usually just to and from the airport.

If you do decide to pay cash rather than using one of the toll transponder devices, just make sure that you have a good supply of quarter dollars in the car.
The majority of toll booths around the area are manned and take both notes and coins but there are still a few unmanned ones that only take coin payments.

And, of course, you'll drive on the same road past the airport if you drive to KSC

And get a receipt if you can, you just have to ask. Some rental companies will try it on. We had a couple of toll charges show up on our credit card after we returned from our last visit. I emailed them a copy of the receipts showing we'd paid cash and they cancelled them without any hassle.

If your journey is in Miami definitely take the daily charge from the car hire company. Most of the tolls in the Miami area are automatic, no cash or cards and believe me the fines for using without prepayment are excessive.
