Are you a seasoned traveller with stacks of cheap hostel and hotel stays under your belt?

Or have you stayed in a bargain hostel that just made you go "wow" when you walked through the door?

Whether it's a beautiful B&B in Boston or a tantalising taverna in Tavros we want to hear your personal TOP THREE good but cheap worldwide hostel/hotel/B&B recommendations.

  • It would be great to hear which hostels you rated cracking.

Let us know when you were there too so we have an idea of whether it should still be as good!

Wouldn't it be easier to look on tripadvisor?

My top three are all in Cambodia. Basically, everything is cheap there, so there is nothing special about the price I pay (all under a tenner a night).

I'm sure that the contact details would be very helpful for people who want to go to Disneyland...

Just because somewhere was good when I went there, doesn't mean it will still be now.

Waste of time doing hotel and/or trip reviews then.:(

    I might be interested.
Got the flights to and from Bangkok booked 2-27 February. But haven't even thought about where to go in the region yet.
Have got my ideas, but any first-hand additions, especially in the lower budget range are much appreciated.

Not if you do them at the time and give proper information about what you like or disliked.

Not relevant for somewhere you stayed several years ago that could have changed hands a couple of times and/or put their prices up considerably since I stayed there

Naturally. But it's easy enough to look on Trip Advisor or Booking.com or Agoda, and if the reviews are still consistently above average, then it's fair to assume the hotel is still a good bet.

True. That's why a thread like this is pretty pointless.
Too vague (whole of Europe? :wall:) and better tools already exist elsewhere.

Tripadvisor etc didn't exist the last time I travelled in Europe (although the internet wasn't widely available either) and I guess the places I stayed at back then must have closed or changed their names.

Maybe the OP is aimed at recent travellers? I wouldn't feel happy reccomending somewhere I had stayed at some time ago.

Anyway I will kick it off, for a budget trip to one of the most scenic bays in Malta (Marsaxlokk) this is a great place to stay. When we stayed there we didn't actually pick it for budget, but because of the stunning location.

    http://duncanmt.com/rooms.html

There are no prices on the website now and it was undergoing a full refurb whilst we were there so prices may have risen, but it was incredibly cheap. Not a fancy place by any means but functional and very clean. The restaurant downstairs serves good food but it is not an elegant eatery. Close by there are lots of other restaurants and there is a market right in front of the hotel most days but a big one on Sundays. We would definitely go back.

    Hope this suits someone!
